Description
Grafton Public Library is looking for an enthusiastic and hardworking Library Page to join our team!
Are you organized, dependable, and enjoy being around books and people? A Library Page is an important part of keeping the library organized, welcoming, and ready for our patrons.
Typical responsibilities include shelving library materials, performing shelf reading to ensure the materials are kept in proper order and assisting in other support tasks, as assigned.
This is a part-time position, approximately 4-7 hours per week including two weekdays per week (early afternoon/evening, approximately 2-hour shifts) and every other Saturday 10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. Starting wage is $10.88 per hour. Applicants must be at least 15 years of age.
The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, comfortable working independently, and willing to pitch in wherever needed. A love of books and libraries is a plus!

2. Inspects and arranges returned materials on book trucks and reshelves them in proper order.
3. Shelf-reads and straightens materials on shelves while shelving and in other assigned areas.
4. Empties book drops and stages books for check-in.
5. Answers directional questions and refers non-directional questions to appropriate staff.
6. Pulls materials to fill holds.
7. Knowledge about, promotes, and assists with library programs and displays.
8. Performs light housekeeping.
9. Stay informed and maintain communication through regular monitoring of email and discussion boards.
10.Performs other duties as assigned.Education and Experience:
1. Education equivalent to a sophomore in high school.
2. Eligible for a child labor permit, if required.
3. No experience required.
Knowledge and Abilities:
1. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from patrons.
2. Ability to follow detailed directions.
3. Ability to maintain confidentiality of library patron information.
4. Ability to maintain a regular work schedule.
5. Ability to perform moderately heavy physical work.
6. Demonstration of good character as determined through a background investigation.
7. Good interpersonal skills and ability to maintain and foster cooperative and courteous working relationships with the public, colleagues, and supervisors.
8. Working knowledge of English language grammar and spelling.
9. Working knowledge of libraries and their core functions.
Physical Demands of Position:
1. Working in confined spaces.
2. Sitting, standing, walking, climbing (with short step stool) stooping, kneeling, crouching.
3. Lifting and carrying 35 pounds or less.
4. Pushing and pulling objects weighing 150 to 200 pounds on wheels.
5. Speaking, hearing, and near vision.
Mental Requirements of Position:
1. Communication skills: effectively communicate ideas and information in both writing and speaking.
2. Mathematical ability: calculate basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) with or without the aid of a calculator.
3. Reading ability: effectively read and understand information contained memoranda, reports, and bulletins.
4. Time management: set priorities in order to meet assigned deadlines.
Environmental/Working Conditions:
1. Flexible work hours; frequent evening and weekend hours.
2. Inside work environment with a minimum of outside work.
Equipment Used:
1. Book trucks for transporting materials to proper areas for reshelving.
2. Bins for retrieving materials from outside book drops.
3. Computer for email, schedules, and time sheets.
4. Telephone.
