Overview
The Project Manager will be responsible for the successful delivery of highways and transportation projects from inception through to completion. The role involves managing project scope, programme, budget, risk, stakeholders, and contractors to ensure schemes are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with Local Authority objectives, statutory requirements, and funding conditions.
Projects may include highway improvements, active travel schemes, junction upgrades, resurfacing programmes, traffic management initiatives, drainage improvements and structures maintenance.
Your role
Delivery of project management and contract administration through the project life cycle, ensuring delivery to agreed scope, programme, cost, and quality requirements.
Develop and manage project plans, budgets, resource forecasts, and governance reporting.
Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams and manage project interfaces, dependencies, and delivery risks.
Prepare business cases, cost estimates, funding applications, and manage project change control.
Monitor financial performance, expenditure, and forecasting throughout the project lifecycle.
Lead project meetings, manage approvals, and resolve delivery issues to maintain programme objectives.
Manage stakeholder engagement, including elected members, residents, statutory bodies, utility companies, and external partners.
Maintain risk and issue registers, ensuring appropriate mitigation and escalation.
Ensure compliance with Local Authority governance, CDM Regulations, highways legislation, and environmental requirements.
Promote a strong culture of health, safety, quality, and sustainability.
Clear and accurate monitoring and reporting of project performance against programme, technical quality, financial and KPI targets; both internally and externally.
Cognisant delivery of projects and tasks in accordance with the AtkinsRéalis Values; Safety, Integrity, Collaboration and Innovation.
Manage multiple concurrent projects, providing regular performance updates to the Portfolio Manager and Project Director and contributing to wider highways capital programme development.
About you
Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, with proven experience delivering highways, infrastructure, or transportation projects.
Has and clear understanding and experience of construction contracts, particularly NEC4.
Experience delivering capital projects from feasibility through construction and handover to time, cost and quality objectives.
PRINCE2 Practitioner, APM PMQ, or equivalent project management qualification desirable.
Demonstrable experience of budget and programme management.
Experience managing contractor and consultant relationships.
CDM Regulations 2015.
Holds a valid UK driving licence and able to travel to sites across Buckinghamshire if required.
