ABOUT THE ROLE:
Commonpoint’s Youth Workforce Department comprises a number of different programs serving individuals predominantly from 14-24 years old. SYEP provides New York City youth with summer employment and educational experiences that build on their individual strengths and incorporate youth development principles.
These principles include engaging the talents and interests of youth, developing their skills and competencies, and providing positive adult role models.
The Work, Learn & Grow (WLG) Facilitator plays a key role in supporting young people as they strengthen their work-readiness skills, explore career and postsecondary pathways, and successfully participate in the Work, Learn & Grow program.
The Facilitator leads engaging virtual workshops and learning activities focused on career readiness, professional development, workplace success, and reflection. The Facilitator also provides ongoing guidance, encouragement, and accountability to participants throughout the program.
Because this is a remote position, the Facilitator is responsible for creating an interactive and supportive virtual learning environment, maintaining consistent communication with participants, monitoring attendance and engagement, and helping youth develop the digital and professional skills needed to succeed in school, internships, and future employment.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitate engaging virtual WLG workshops, activities, and learning sessions aligned with program goals and curriculum.
- Deliver workforce-readiness content related to career exploration, workplace expectations, communication, teamwork, problem-solving, financial literacy, résumé and interview preparation, digital professionalism, and other career-development topics.
- Create an inclusive, welcoming, and interactive virtual learning environment where participants feel comfortable contributing, asking questions, and collaborating with peers.
- Use interactive facilitation strategies, including breakout rooms, discussions, polls, collaborative activities, real-world scenarios, presentations, and reflection exercises, to maintain participant engagement.
- Monitor participant attendance, participation, engagement, and completion of required activities.
- Follow up with participants regarding incomplete assignments, program requirements, scheduled activities, and other action items.
- Track participant activity and maintain accurate, timely program documentation, attendance records, case notes, and other required records.
- Communicate program expectations, schedules, deadlines, and important updates clearly and consistently to participants.
- Work collaboratively with WLG program staff, internship/worksite staff, and other partners as appropriate to support participant success.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, program planning, and professional development activities.
- Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS & KEY ATTRIBUTES:
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma required; Current college enrollment or Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
- Experience with classroom management.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a professional setting.
- Must be computer literate including experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills.
- Prior knowledge of Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) and Work, Learn, & Grow (WLG) strongly recommended.
- Experience developing youth development and work readiness curriculum.
- Demonstrated experience working with a youth development programs and facilitating educational workshops for young people.
- Unflappable customer service, organization and time management skills.
- Creative, professional and an excellent sense of humor.
- Passion for youth and community development.
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Facilitation & Mentor Skills – Guides discussions, promotes collaboration, and helps students problem-solve independently.
- Experience with Diverse Populations – Understanding of and sensitivity to working with vulnerable youth.
- Passion for Workforce Development & Education – Interest in youth development, skill-building, and preparing students for real-world experiences.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
Commonpoint offers competitive base salaries benchmarked against comparable nonprofit organizations in the New York metropolitan area. Salaries are determined based on internal and external equity, as well as each position’s scope, qualifications, and organizational impact. We believe in compensating staff fairly and consistently, ensuring that all salary decisions align with our mission-driven commitment to equity and transparency.
To maintain fairness across the organization, salary offers are set according to established salary bands and are not subject to negotiation. New hires typically start near the beginning of the salary range to allow for growth based on performance, professional development, and tenure.
JOB DETAILS
- Schedule: Seasonal, Approximately 15 Hours Per Week.
- Hourly Rate: $25/hour.
- Expected Start Date: October 2026 (8 weeks).
- Modality: The WLG Facilitator role is primarily remote, leading engaging, hands-on project-based learning sessions with students and completing virtual administrative components.
