GENERAL MAINTENANCE WORKER - PROJECT SUPPORT

NVE is seeking a part-time General Maintenance Worker (GMW) to support additional project and facilities work at two GSA facilities in the Kansas City, Missouri area. This position is intended to provide flexible labor support for work performed in addition to the day-to-day base operations and maintenance (O&M) services at the facilities.

The GMW will primarily assist with project work, contractor support, escorting, GSA service requests, IDIQ work, and other additional services performed at the facilities. Much of this work may occur after normal business hours or on weekends, making this a good opportunity for someone seeking a flexible schedule and hands-on experience in the facilities maintenance trades.

This position is well suited for an individual who has basic maintenance or construction experience, or someone early in their facilities career who is mechanically inclined, dependable, willing to learn, and interested in developing broader trade skills. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced facilities professionals and gain exposure to a variety of building systems, maintenance activities, and project work in a commercial Government facility environment.

The position will be hired as part-time, with hours varying based on project workload and customer requirements. Candidates should have flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and additional hours when project needs arise. As workload and the individual's capabilities grow, there may be opportunities for increased hours, cross-training, expanded responsibilities, and consideration for future full-time positions as they become available.

Job Requirements/Duties:

The General Maintenance Worker will provide hands-on support under the direction of the Project Manager, Chief Engineer, Supervisor, or designated project lead. Responsibilities may include:

• Support maintenance, repair, renovation, and small project work throughout the facilities.
• Assist NVE personnel, subcontractors, and other contractors performing project work, including providing escorts and access support when required.
• Perform basic and semi-skilled maintenance tasks involving architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems within the individual's demonstrated capabilities.
• Assist skilled trades personnel with project installations, repairs, troubleshooting, testing, inspections, and equipment replacement.
• Perform minor carpentry, drywall repair, patching, painting, hardware replacement, and other general building repairs.
• Support GSA service requests, IDIQ projects, and other additional work performed outside the base O&M requirements.
• Assist with minor HVAC, plumbing, and electrical tasks under appropriate supervision.
• As workload requires, supplement the facilities team with routine maintenance activities such as filter changes, drain cleaning, lighting replacement, inspections, and other preventive maintenance tasks.
• Safely use common hand and power tools and learn additional tools and equipment as assigned.
• Operate lifts or other equipment when properly trained and authorized.
• Maintain clean, orderly, and safe work areas during and following project activities.
• Follow written and verbal instructions and complete assigned work accurately and within established schedules.
• Communicate professionally with GSA personnel, building tenants, contractors, subcontractors, and other NVE team members.
• Provide timely updates regarding assigned work and immediately communicate problems, delays, or conditions requiring additional technical assistance.
• Use mobile phones, tablets, computers, and other basic office equipment to receive assignments and document completed work.
• Be willing to cross-train, learn new skills, and take on additional responsibilities as experience and capabilities develop.
• Maintain dependable attendance and punctuality and be available for scheduled evening, weekend, or extended-hour project work.

Qualifications for the position include:

• High School or Equivalent (at a minimum)
• Basic experience in facilities maintenance, construction, building trades, handyman work, or a related field preferred.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn multiple building trades.
• Ability to safely use common hand and power tools.
• Ability to understand and follow written and verbal work instructions.
• Strong dependability, punctuality, and attention to detail.
• Professional demeanor and ability to provide good customer service in an occupied commercial facility.
• Ability and willingness to work a flexible part-time schedule, including evenings and weekends based on project requirements.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements associated with facilities maintenance and project work.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required access to Federal facilities

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous commercial or Government facilities maintenance experience.
• Experience with general repairs, painting, drywall, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, or HVAC-related work.
• Experience supporting construction or facility improvement projects
• OSHA 30 desired
• Existing favorable HSPD-12 suitability/credentialing determination
