The base pay scale for this position is $0.00 - $0.00. In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to: scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. The hiring range listed is a good faith determination of potential compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.

What you will be doing

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Obtains and documents reason for visit, patient vital signs which may include: Temperature, blood pressure, weight, BMI, respirations, and pulse.
  • Collects specimens as directed by provider. Uses appropriate equipment and protocols for specimen collection, processing, handling, and storage. Ensures all specimens are tracked/logged prior to transportation to lab.
  • Ensures all patient care areas are adequately stocked with unexpired medical supplies and has equipment that is in good working condition with up to date biomedical assessment checks. Properly handles, stores, and cleans instruments, equipment, and supplies per manufacturer guidelines.
  • Prepares patients for scheduled procedures by assuring patient is appropriately gowned and instruments and supplies are set-up.
  • Arranges for patients' ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services by completing necessary paperwork and scheduling of appointments. Under the direction of the provider, tracks, reviews and monitors follow-up of diagnostic test results. Relays information from the provider to the patient regarding results and follow-up instructions.
  • Under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse or provider, prepares and administers vaccines, medications and controlled substances/narcotics as prescribed by the provider and as skilled competencies permit. Asks prescribed screening questions, identifies risks and contraindications, questions and observes for appropriate responses.
  • Documents and processes prescription requests and refills per protocol.
  • Performs basic office procedures, examinations and/or tests ordered by provider and as skill competencies demonstrate competence
  • Provides patients with standard patient care instructions and education, and reviews with patient and family members as directed by providers
  • Obtains comprehensive health information from patient/family members to review with providers or clinical resource over the phone. Uses this information to assist providers in determining the urgency for care or an alternative venue for care for patients with acute problems, should access not be readily available at the practice. Returns calls to patient in a timely matter.
  • Completes pre-visit planning and visit prep according to established guidelines. Obtains comprehensive health information from patient/family members at the time of the visit. This may include review of systems and history of present illness and/or past medical and social history. Obtains an accurate medication review updating the EHR.
  • Efficiently manages daily patient flow to manage fluctuating patient volumes and demands. Prioritizes daily patient care tasks and activities that are delegated by the care team.
  • Under the direction of your supervisor, takes ownership in an office function/process improvement.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of patient's health information. Completes annual HSS Corporate Compliance, and other mandatory education.
  • Supports the provider during the visit and patient exam by collecting and entering information in the patient record, carrying out orders and completing post visit patient care education and instructions.
  • Maintains an 80% or higher on all yearly audits performed.
  • Maintains a cost-effective approach to patient care. Uses type and quantity of materials to meet patient care requirements at the least cost.
  • Maximizes efficiency and productivity. Identifies and recommends ways to improve efficiency and/or outcomes in work standards.
  • Provides feedback to others to ensure performance improvement. Provides feedback to personnel as necessary to acknowledge and/or improve quality (i.e. timeliness, efficiency, appropriateness, patient satisfaction).
  • Reports excessive use of costly materials Recognizes and reports use of costly or excessive quantity of materials.
  • Shares pertinent professional information and knowledge with others. Exchanges appropriate and professional information with co-workers.
  • Communicates when deadlines cannot be met. Communicates to right person when deadlines cannot be met and identifies barriers to task completion.
  • Initiates emergency interventions appropriately. Initiates emergency interventions (heartsaver) as appropriate according to unit-based standard of care.
  • Notifies appropriate personnel of urgent/emergent situations. Notifies appropriate personnel of emergent/urgent situations; initiates emergency interventions (Heartsaver) as appropriate.
  • Accurately records data. Accurately records data (i.e. vital signs, heights and weight).
  • Follows guidelines for documentation. Documents per established HSS/office guidelines.
  • Completes mandatory e-Learning.
  • Maintains clinical competency.
  • Promotes & ensures patient safety. Follows and implements established policies and procedures to ensure patient safety.
  • Promotes utilization of principles of Infection Control and Standard precautions in the performance of patient care activities.
  • Follows procedures for malfunctioning equipment as outlined by the Department of Biomedical Engineering.
  • Immediately reports safety and security problems to the appropriate persons.
  • Offers emotional, physical or spiritual support for patients and family members
  • Takes steps to maintain the patient's physical and personal privacy.
  • Checks unit refrigerators and records temperatures on refrigerator daily logs and/or AED, as applicable.
  • Time management. Completes assignments and meets deadlines.
  • Uses and maintains equipment as intended. Uses and maintains HSS equipment, furnishings and facilities as intended.
  • Prepares site for invasive joint injections/aspirations. Prepares patient for invasive joint injections/aspirations utilizing sterile techniques.
  • Stocks exam rooms weekly and as needed. Stocks exam rooms weekly and as needed.
  • Ensures patient care areas are clean and presentable and ready for patient use.
  • Maintains the patient's medical records according to requirements.
  • Obtains and reports vital signs.
  • Participates in programs and huddles as designated.
  • Assists with changing of post-op dressings, removal of sutures, and carries out appropriate wound care, under direct supervision of clinical privileged license personnel, as applicable.
  • Works cooperatively within own unit/department and with other units/departments. Acts as team player, as indicated by feedback from the care delivery team/ office, clinic team as applicable.

    YEARS OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
    2 years, Medical Assistant. Outpatient experience desirable. Knowledge of phlebotomy, aseptic technique, basic wound care, patient safety and patient transport techniques.

    YEARS OF EXPERIENCE PREFERRED
    Knowledge of communication of patient status through recording and reporting of clinical data (i. e. vital signs, pulse oximetry, height and weight), basic medical terminology.

    PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS


    ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS
    Indoor area with frequent exposure. Located in an indoor area with frequent exposure to mild physical discomfort from dust, fumes, temperature, and noise. Examples: patient care providers and laboratory technicians.

    HAZARDS OSHA
    OSHA Category 1.Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, and other potentially infectious materials.

    EDUCATION REQUIRED
    High School Diploma or equivalent (G. E. D.), may include specialized or vocational courses. Additional outpatient didactic and clinical training such as obtained through completion of a corpsmen or patient care associate program, or equivalent experience.

    EDUCATION PREFERRED
    Medical Assistant Certification

    CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE REQUIRED
    Medical Assistant. Successful completion of a certified medical assistant training program.

    CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE PREFERRED
    RMA, CMA
