Description
The Material Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the timely availability, accurate tracking, and efficient movement of raw materials, packaging components, and finished goods within the manufacturing facility. This role supports production by coordinating material flow, maintaining inventory accuracy, and working closely with procurement, warehouse, and production teams to prevent shortages or delays.
Key Responsibilities
Material Planning & Coordination
- Coordinate the daily availability of raw materials and packaging components to support production schedules.
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate material shortages or risks to the Supply Chain or Procurement team.
- Ensure production lines are supplied with the correct materials and packaging components in advance of scheduled runs.
- Support production changeovers by ensuring materials are staged and ready.
- Maintain accurate inventory records within the ERP or inventory management system.
- Perform regular cycle counts of raw materials, packaging components, and work-in-progress inventory.
- Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies.
- Ensure proper labeling, storage, and rotation of materials in accordance with FIFO or FEFO practices.
- Work closely with warehouse personnel to stage materials for production.
- Coordinate inbound material receipts and verify accuracy against purchase orders.
- Support the movement and tracking of materials between warehouse and production areas.
- Ensure proper documentation for material transfers and adjustments.
- Partner with production supervisors to anticipate material needs for upcoming runs.
- Track material usage and report variances or inefficiencies.
- Assist with line clearance and material reconciliation following production runs.
- Ensure materials are handled and stored according to GMP and quality standards.
- Maintain accurate documentation for audits, inventory records, and traceability requirements.
- Assist with internal audits, inventory reconciliations, and mock recalls when required.
- Identify opportunities to improve material flow, inventory accuracy, and warehouse organization.
- Support implementation of standard operating procedures related to material management.
Education, Experience, & Success
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Logistics, or related field preferred.
- 2–4 years of experience in materials coordination, inventory control, warehouse operations, or supply chain.
- Experience in a manufacturing or CPG environment preferred.
- Experience with ERP or inventory management systems.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and inventory tracking systems.
- Strong communication and coordination skills across operations, procurement, and production teams.
