2nd Shift Mill Lead

Description

The 2nd Shift Mill Lead is responsible for leading the evening production team to safely and efficiently manufacture and load feed. This role ensures all mill operations run smoothly during the shift, including ingredient handling, batching, loadout, and team coordination. The Lead sets expectations, maintains quality standards, and ensures work is completed accurately and on time.

Essential Duties:

Team Leadership & Supervision

• Lead, direct, and support the evening mill team 
• Assign daily tasks and ensure proper staffing for operations 
• Set clear expectations for safety, performance, and teamwork 
• Train and develop team members on mill processes and equipment 
• Hold team accountable for attendance, performance, and safety compliance 

Feed Production & Operations

• Oversee feed manufacturing to ensure accuracy and efficiency 
• Ensure proper batching, mixing, and sequencing of feed 
• Monitor production flow and make adjustments as needed 
• Troubleshoot minor equipment or process issues 

Ingredient Handling

• Supervise unloading of ingredients, including dumping totes and bulk ingredients 
• Ensure proper storage and inventory handling of ingredients 
• Verify correct ingredients are used according to formulations 
• Ensure that daily and weekly med reconciliation is done and accurate

Loadout & Logistics

• Oversee loading of trucks for delivery 
• Ensure orders are loaded accurately and on schedule 
• Coordinate with drivers and logistics as needed 
• Making sure all first round trucks are loaded correctly

Safety & Compliance

• Enforce all safety policies and procedures 
• Ensure proper use of PPE and safe equipment operation 
• Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment 
• File any safety concerns & report immediately 
• Complete safety trainings on time and ensure the team is getting them done

Quality Control

• Ensure feed quality meets company standards 
• Verify proper documentation and tracking of batches 
• Monitor for inconsistencies and take corrective action 

Communication & Documentation

• Communicate shift updates, issues, and production status to management 
• Complete required paperwork (production logs, load sheets, etc.) 
• Coordinate with 1st shift and other departments for smooth handoffs

Requirements

Experience

• Previous experience in feed mill, agriculture, or manufacturing preferred 
• Leadership or supervisory experience preferred 
• Strong communication and organizational skills 
• Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability 
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment 
• Need to be able to take after-hour phone calls and at times return to mill as needed

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly 
• Ability to work in dust, noise, and varying temperatures 
• Standing, walking, climbing, and operating equipment for extended periods
