Our client is an ambitious and fast-growing technology company looking for a hands-on Head of Finance & Commercial to take ownership of the finance function and work closely with the Managing Director on business strategy, growth and commercial decision-making.

This is a broad and influential role combining financial control, management accounting and commercial finance, with significant scope to improve processes, introduce better systems and help shape the company's future.

The Role

Working directly with the MD, you will take ownership of the finance function while providing the financial insight and commercial challenge needed to support growth and decision-making.

You'll be responsible for:

• Producing accurate monthly management accounts and meaningful financial reporting.
• Leading budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow management.
• Providing commercial analysis, insight and recommendations to the MD.
• Monitoring revenue, margins, profitability, costs and working capital.
• Developing KPIs, dashboards and reporting to improve business visibility.
• Supporting pricing, investment and wider commercial decisions.
• Overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and core finance processes.
• Maintaining strong financial controls and governance.
• Managing relationships with external accountants and professional advisers.
• Improving finance processes, systems and automation.
• Supporting business planning, financial modelling and future growth.
• Identifying commercial opportunities, risks and areas for improved profitability.
• Acting as a trusted commercial partner to the MD, challenging assumptions and helping shape business strategy.

AI & Technology

As a technology-focused business, we're looking for someone who is comfortable embracing AI and new technology.

You don't need to be an AI specialist, but you'll need to be curious and willing to use tools such as ChatGPT, Claude and other AI platforms to improve reporting, analysis, automation, research and day-to-day efficiency.

We're looking for someone who sees technology as an opportunity to work smarter and build more efficient finance processes, rather than relying solely on traditional ways of working.

About You

You'll ideally have experience as a Financial Controller, Head of Finance, Senior Finance Manager or commercially focused Finance Manager, with strong management accounting and commercial experience.

We're looking for someone who is:

• Commercially minded and analytically strong.
• Comfortable working directly with an MD, CEO or business owner.
• Hands-on and happy operating at both strategic and detailed levels.
• Confident challenging and advising senior stakeholders.
• Experienced in budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow management.
• Strong with Excel, financial modelling and management reporting.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced SME, entrepreneurial or high-growth environment.
• Proactive, adaptable and solutions-focused.
• Interested in technology and enthusiastic about using AI to improve productivity.
• Able to work independently and take full ownership of the finance function.

Technology, software, SaaS or IT services experience would be highly desirable, although not essential.

ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent qualification is advantageous.
