Responsibilities
Technical Design and Production
- Support the design and development of industrial and commercial projects. This includes collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure all site components align with overall client objectives.
- Apply Civil Engineering fundamentals to full systems and sub-systems. Accurately interpret and utilize topographic surveys, boundary data, and existing site conditions.
- Prepare and produce comprehensive construction documents, plan sets, and technical details. Develop detailed drawings from sketches, client criteria, and established design examples.
- Perform basic tasks on site layout, earthwork grading, utility routing (domestic water, sewerage) and minor stormwater management design. Ensure all civil designs adhere to applicable municipal codes, governing standards, and project parameters.
- Execute routine engineering calculations for basic storm drainage, sanitary sewer and domestic water networks for review by the project engineer. Prepare corresponding preliminary and final layouts based on these calculations.
- Address and resolve drawing redlines, QA/QC comments, and client review feedback in an accurate and timely manner. Examine as-recorded drawings and field data to evaluate existing utilities and surface elevations.
- Develop civil construction details, prepare material selections, and adapt design solutions to project alternatives. Maintain and organize the official project design notebook, calculations, and supporting documentation.
- Execute CAD modeling and drafting tasks using Civil 3D and associated digital tools. Leverage digital technologies, including artificial intelligence tools where applicable, to optimize production workflows.
Project Coordination and Professional Execution
- Execute routine engineering tasks under technical supervision, taking on progressively greater responsibilities as performance demonstrates competence. Receive close guidance on unfamiliar assignments while maintaining the autonomy to exercise sound engineering judgment.
- Consult proactively with the supervisor to identify, evaluate, and resolve complex or non-standard technical problems. Select and implement appropriate engineering techniques and industry standards.
- Translate design concepts directly into finished working drawings. This position typically carries no formal supervisory duties over others.
- Communicate project status, engineering roadblocks, and timeline milestones clearly to the direct supervisor.
- Travel periodically to client facilities, job sites, and partner offices as project scopes demand. Maintain a valid driver's license (which may be required for site assignments).
