Programme structure - your work at MBDA:

The academic portion of this apprenticeship focuses on mastering statutory regulations, paired with extensive on-the-job learning where you will remain on scheme, completing practical training to support your future role within our organisation. Study will be delivered through a blend of office-based learning and direct, front-line industry experience.

When not studying, you will be working directly within our core Stevenage Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) function and can expect to be onsite 3 days per week.

Throughout the lifecycle of our operations, safeguarding our people and our surroundings is paramount – and one of the most integral roles comes from our SHE team. Our technicians work simultaneously with management and delivery teams to advise on statutory health, safety, and environmental requirements, ensuring our operations run efficiently, legally, and sustainably. We have a unique apprenticeship within this team to help us continue the successful, responsible delivery of our operations in the future.

What you will achieve:

Throughout this programme, apprentices will:

  • Develop the skills required to effectively manage risk and implement Safety, Health, and Environmental Management Systems in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Be working with colleagues and partners across all levels of the organisation, inspiring and influencing others to see the benefit of working responsibly.
  • Look at operations at the work front and in the office to get a full, well-rounded insight into the practical application of company SHE policies and statutory frameworks.
  • Investigate incidents, analyse data, and present findings directly to the management team to determine next steps and drive continuous improvement.
  • Be trained on delivering vital training—such as company inductions and toolbox talks—while mastering commonly used digital office applications and reporting tools.

Our team promotes innovative thinking, encourages sustainable ideas, and embraces them, so there will be ample opportunity for your own contributions toward a positive safety culture. You'll be encouraged to think creatively, challenge existing ways of working and contribute ideas that make a real difference to the business.

Training will be given on how to identify hazards, evaluate workplace risks, and implement safe systems of work. As we build on your confidence and professional judgement, your operational responsibility will increase, with continuous help and mentoring from those around you.

You’ll build a strong network across the business right from the beginning. This will include collaborating with site workers, project managers, functions, projects and departments giving you a comprehensive understanding of how safety enhances every aspect of our business. To help colleagues feel comfortable asking questions, to get them to raise concerns and to generally promote and advocate for health and safety matters you'll need to enjoy talking to people!

You’ll also learn to work within the strict code of conduct defined by professional institutions, ensuring everyone is able to return to their family and friends unharmed every day, while protecting global land, air, and water resources.

Your future career:

This is a fantastic opportunity dedicated to your personal development and the improvement of safe working practices across the business. You'll be joining a scheme designed to build high-impact communication, personal confidence, and expert technical knowledge.

This apprenticeship is the perfect launchpad for a rewarding career, leading directly to SHE Technician and Safety Advisor positions, which ultimately progress to Health and Safety Manager roles.

What we’re looking for from you:

This role has specific qualification and subject criteria so please make sure you carefully check your eligibility against this criteria before applying otherwise your application will not be considered. If you are currently studying and predicted to meet these requirements by the start date you are welcome to apply.

GCSEs:

5 GCSEs at minimum grade 4.

They must include:

·       English Language

·       Mathematics

·       A Science or Technology subject

Basic understanding of Microsoft applications is essential for this apprenticeship.
