Description

Assistant Director of the HEAL Project

Office of Partnerships and Professional Studies, Academic Affairs

St. Edward's University of Austin, Texas invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of the HEAL Project. This is a grant funded position. Continued employment is contingent upon the ongoing availability of grant funds from the Federal Government.

Federal grant funding allows for a newly created position, the Assistant Director of the HEAL project, under the Office of Partnerships and Professional Studies (OPPS). The role will focus on supporting the operations, management, and partnership development of the Central Texas Healthcare Education and Advancement of Learning (HEAL) project at St. Edward's University. This is a transformative curricular and workforce development project that seeks to expand the University's academic capabilities serving low-income, alternative, and non-traditional adult learners in need of accessible pathways for career advancement in healthcare.

HEAL was designed in response to clinical shortages across the Central Texas region, and the project collaborates with a variety of regional healthcare and workforce partners to help establish accelerated, stackable, and portable healthcare workforce credentials. The Assistant Director will support the Director across the project's build, implementation, partnership development, and reporting phases. The role will work closely with the School of Health Sciences and other centralized university departments.

  • Must have a bachelor's degree in Higher Education Administration, Education, Public Health, Curriculum and Instruction, or other related areas, alongside experience managing complex educational projects or federal grants.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, managing instructional design timelines or program/product development milestones, and working with workforce development boards/agencies.
  • An interest and background in solving complex, creative problems in Education, Healthcare, or corporate environments for learners and employees.
  • Comfortability working in collaborative, mission-focused, and entrepreneurial environments.
  • Experience interpreting federal higher education rules, managing contracts, or dealing with state regulatory commissions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A graduate degree in a related field to Higher Education Administration, Education, Public Health, Curriculum and Instruction, or other related areas, alongside a minimum of 3 years of experience managing complex educational projects or federal grants.
  • At least 3 years of Higher Education administration experience.

  • Experience being adaptable in the face of complex project problems and timelines.
  • Experience and comfortability in external facing roles and presenting information to groups of people.
  • General knowledge of course design principles and modern innovations in teaching and learning.
  • General knowledge and ability to work with university systems, including but not limited to Microsoft suite, Google suite, any learning management system, and any SIS/CRM.
  • Working knowledge and application of chat/LLM prompting.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills and a solid background in the English language.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Regulatory Compliance & Partnerships: Monitor the Department of Education's (DOE) rulemaking and regulatory changes concerning Workforce Pell Grant guidelines in anticipation of project eligibility, alongside relevant guidelines from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB). Federal and State guidelines for curricular development will support broader OPPS infrastructure and professional programs. Manage contacts and relationships with the Project's associated workforce board partners and employer partners as needed.
  • Curriculum Coordination: Support and contribute to the project's instructional design process with the School of Health Sciences. Coordinate contracts and timelines with the subject matter experts and instructional designers to ensure all grant funded healthcare programs meet curricular best practices and innovative deliveries/modalities for enrolled learners.
  • Personnel Management: Prepare for and lead the onboarding and management of the project's Workforce Success Coach and the Workforce Partnerships Specialist in future grant years.
  • Systems Integration: Collaborate with centralized university operations and staff to ensure learner applications, student information systems, and instructional support technologies provide a seamless learner journey. The student journey framework will support both the Project and serve as an underlying scalable model for broader applications across OPPS.
