Position: Legal and Compliance counsel - India, Rock Processing, Job Location: Pune (Maharashtra)
Job Synopsis:
The Legal & Compliance Counsel, India provides in-country legal and compliance leadership for Sandvik Rock Processing in India: Sales Area India and Rock Processing production organization, ensuring adherence to Sandvik Code of Conduct, Sandvik Group and Rock Processing policies, and applicable Indian and international laws. The role carries a compliance-weighted mandate reinforced by hands-on legal and governance support.
Emphasizing a risk-based approach, business focus, practical business integration and a mindset of continuous improvement, the counsel embeds compliance into day-to-day operations, defines and implement appropriate governance framework in line with Sandvik Group and Rock Processing models, support business with day-to-day legal and compliance inquiries and acts as a trusted advisor and Legal and Compliance business partner to local management while reporting functionally to the Rock Processing Chief Compliance Officer.
Job Responsibilities:
Compliance (~50–60%) – Implement Sandvik compliance program for Sandvik Rock Processing in India: anti-bribery/anti-corruption (risk assessments, monitoring, third-party due diligence), trade compliance (sanctions, customs, export control), competition law (training, dawn-raid readiness), and data privacy/digital compliance. Deliver risk-based training to build awareness across the Sales Area and production organization, and lead Speak Up investigations impartially, reporting findings and following up on remediation.
Legal (~40–50%) – Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements (NDAs, sales, distributor/agency, sourcing, IT/IP) as local review/approval point and provide proactive legal risk advice to Sales and Sourcing. Manages local litigation, claims and disputes, including instructing and cost-managing external counsel and feeding into BA litigation reporting. Support employment law matters with HR.
Governance (~5–20%) – Act as the local link between business, entity management and BA Legal, Compliance and Finance teams coordinating questions on Delegation of Authority, subsidiary governance, ERM and internal controls, and flagging gaps or unclear ownership for resolution.
Required Education, Experience & Skills-
- Indian law degree (LL.B.)/ Bachelor’s in law/business/finance or related field, Compliance certification (e.g. CCEP-I, CIPP) is an asset.
- Minimum 6–8 years combined legal and compliance experience in a multinational company in engineering, manufacturing, mining or industrial sectors
- Proven track record in ABC, trade compliance, third-party due diligence and investigations in India.
- Solid experience independently drafting and negotiating commercial contract, litigation experience.
- Familiarity with Indian legal/regulatory/enforcement trends and subsidiary governance
- Turns complex requirements into simple, practical business processes; pragmatic, avoids over-compliance yet keeps focus on what matters.
- High personal integrity; handles confidential matters with discretion.
- Strong stakeholder management across cultures; influences without direct authority.
- Decisive and autonomous under uncertainty; resilient in a fast-paced environment; hands-on and practical attitude.
- Strong communication skills adjusted towards different audiences.
- Fluent English (written and spoken); additional Indian languages an asset. Willing to travel domestically and internationally.
