About the Role

At Alcoa, our environmental professionals play a critical role in supporting safe, sustainable and compliant mining operations across some of Western Australia's most significant mining assets. We currently have multiple opportunities available for experienced environmental professionals to join our WA Mining Environment team as Mine Environmental Specialist(s). Opportunities are available on both a permanent and fixed-term basis, working a Monday to Friday roster with the added benefit of a paid leisure day off every four weeks.

Based on site at Willowdale Mine, you will work closely with operational teams to provide practical environmental leadership and specialist support across a broad range of environmental portfolios.

In addition to supporting one of the world's largest bauxite mining operations, you'll gain exposure to environmental activities across Alcoa's wider WA Mining operations, working alongside experienced technical specialists and industry leaders.

In this role, you'll coordinate and implement environmental management, monitoring and compliance programs that support safe and sustainable mining operations. You'll work closely with production, maintenance, rehabilitation, planning and contractor teams to ensure environmental obligations are met and risks are effectively managed.

You'll have the opportunity to work across a broad range of environmental disciplines including compliance, monitoring, water management, biodiversity, rehabilitation and operational environmental improvement initiatives, providing excellent exposure and development opportunities within WA Mining.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Coordinating environmental monitoring, management and compliance programs.
• Providing practical environmental advice and support to operational teams.
• Supporting environmental incident response, investigations and corrective actions.
• Preparing environmental reports, compliance documentation and regulatory submissions.
• Conducting field inspections, audits and assurance activities.
• Coordinating consultants, contractors and environmental projects.
• Identifying opportunities to improve environmental performance and reduce risk.
• Providing guidance and mentoring to technicians and other team members when required.

What you can bring to the role

• A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Ecology, Hydrology, related discipline, or significant experience in a related field.
• Experience working within mining, resources, heavy industry or another regulated operational environment.
• Experience in environmental monitoring, compliance, auditing, reporting and incident investigation.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• The ability to interpret environmental requirements and translate them into practical operational outcomes.
• A commitment to safety, environmental stewardship and continuous improvement.

To be successful, you'll combine strong technical environmental knowledge with the ability to build relationships and influence positive outcomes in an operational environment.

About the Location

Willowdale is one of our two bauxite mines in Western Australia, and is located in the Darling Scarp east of Waroona and Cookernup. It supplies bauxite ore to the Wagerup Alumina Refinery via a direct overland conveying system and helps to produce almost half of Australia’s alumina and approximately 19 per cent of Australia’s aluminium.
