AI Engineer

As an AI Engineer, you will be part of the AI Solutions Team. The team develops and manages AI solutions for both our legal practice groups and business support departments. Together with other AI Engineers, Innovation Advisors, AI Architects, IT specialists, and business stakeholders, you will develop innovative solutions that contribute to the quality, efficiency, and future readiness of our services.

Your role as an AI Engineer

You are responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and continuously improving AI solutions that contribute to Loyens & Loeff's strategic objectives. You work at the intersection of technology, business processes, legal knowledge, and information management. You ensure that solutions are not only technically robust but also aligned with user needs and sustainably embedded within the organization. In addition, you will:

• collaborate with legal practice groups and business teams to identify, analyse, and prioritise opportunities for AI-enabled solutions;
• translate business challenges and user needs into clear requirements, solution designs, and implementation approaches;
• configure and optimise AI environments, workflows, and knowledge assets that support concrete business use cases;
• define standards for how legal knowledge and information assets are structured and used within AI solutions;
• advise practice groups on knowledge management approaches that make AI solutions easier to scale, maintain, and reuse;
• coordinate the intake, evaluation, and delivery of AI initiatives together with AI engineers, IT colleagues, and business stakeholders;
• design and execute testing activities to assess the quality, usability, and business value of AI solutions;
• gather user feedback, usage insights, and performance data and translate these into improvements and new opportunities;
• support adoption by developing guidance materials, demonstrations, and user documentation;
• monitor developments in AI and identify opportunities to expand the firm's AI solutions portfolio.  

This role is really for you, because you have:

• a bachelor's or master’s degree in Law, Information Science, Artificial Intelligence, Business & IT, Innovation Management, Knowledge Management, or a related field, combined with relevant professional experience;
• a strong interest in both technology and business processes and you enjoy working at the intersection of the two;
• the ability to analyse complex processes and translate them into practical and scalable solutions;
• a passion for working with users, understanding their challenges, and helping them realise value from new technologies;
• experience with AI tools, workflow design, process improvement, low-code/no-code platforms, and/or knowledge management in a professional environment;
• a solid understanding of the importance of well-structured and reliable information as the foundation for successful AI solutions;
• experience working in an international environment and strong English communication skills;
• excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously;
• strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders;
• the ability to independently lead workstreams and influence stakeholders across legal, business, and technical teams;
• a strong interest in how AI can transform legal and business services and the motivation to actively contribute to that transformation.

About the team

You will join the AI Solutions team, part of the Innovation department at Loyens & Loeff. This multidisciplinary and international team plays a central role in the firm's AI transformation and develops and manages AI solutions across all home markets.

A critical part of this role is the effective structuring, management, and utilisation of legal knowledge and information. The quality of AI solutions depends heavily on the quality of the underlying knowledge assets and information sources. The combination of AI technology, knowledge management, and innovation is what makes this role unique. You will work with colleagues from multiple disciplines to build solutions that create tangible value for legal and business professionals.
