Contract Duration: Immediate start – March 2027
Role Type: Relief Contractor (CAT 1 / Day Rate)

About the Role As a Site Reliability Engineer within the Cartology Site Reliability team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and cost-efficiency of our Google Cloud Platform (GCP) infrastructure. You will be stepping into a fast-paced AdTech environment, working closely with the Engineering Manager to build robust automation, manage Kubernetes clusters, and drive our FinOps and cloud governance initiatives.
We operate on a model that protects engineering capacity. You will not just be keeping the lights on; you will be helping us engineer for the future, piloting next-generation practices like Agentic SRE, Automated incident response, and self-healing systems.
Key Responsibilities ● Production Support and Incident Management: Support existing infrastructure in
GCP, actively troubleshoot issues, and fix production incidents to ensure maximum uptime and reliability.
● Platform Reliability & Engineering: Design, build, and maintain our core GCP infrastructure, focusing on high availability, security, and performance.
● FinOps & Cost Optimization: Drive cloud cost optimization initiatives, including GKE rightsizing, automated asset inventory reporting, and building cost-visibility data pipelines using BigQuery and Cloud Run/Cloud Scheduler.
● Kubernetes Orchestration: Manage, deploy, and scale microservices on Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) using Helm and robust CI/CD pipelines.
● Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Provision and maintain cloud resources using Terraform, adhering to strict state management and modular design practices.
● GitOps & Automation: Champion GitOps methodologies to automate infrastructure and application deployments, ensuring all changes are version-controlled, tested, and peer-reviewed.
● Observability & Alerting: Build comprehensive observability, custom dashboards, and actionable alerting using OpenTelemetry, GCP native tools (Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging) and enterprise APM solutions like Dynatrace.
● Security & Governance: Implement and manage advanced GCP Networking (VPCs, firewalls, private clusters) and strict Identity and Access Management (IAM) controls.
Required Skills & Experience ● Experience: Minimum 4–5 years of solid, hands-on experience in a dedicated DevOps,
Cloud Engineering, or SRE role. ● Cloud Platform: Extensive, hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP). ● Containers & Orchestration: Deep expertise in Kubernetes (specifically GKE) and
package management using Helm. ● Infrastructure as Code: Advanced proficiency in Terraform (managing complex states,
reusable modules, and remote backends). ● Automation & CI/CD: Strong experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (e.g.,
GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or Harness) and implementing GitOps workflows using ArgoCD.
● Observability & OpenTelemetry : Must have hands-on experience implementing OpenTelemetry for distributed tracing and metrics, alongside building dashboards and configuring alerts using GCP native tools and enterprise platforms like Dynatrace.
● Core Infrastructure: Solid understanding of GCP Networking (VPC peering, load balancing, private endpoints) and GCP IAM (Service Accounts, workload identity, least-privilege policies).
Preferred / Bonus Skills ● AWS experience: Familiarity with AWS infrastructure and support models ● Application Troubleshooting: Experience with JVM troubleshooting and tuning in
containerized environments. ● Data Engineering for SRE (Highly Regarded): Experience writing SQL and building
automated data ingestion pipelines into BigQuery (e.g., pulling API data, Cloud Asset Inventory, or billing exports).
● FinOps Practices: Proven experience analyzing cloud billing, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and implementing automated rightsizing recommendations.
● Scripting & Development: Proficiency in Python or Bash for custom automation and deploying serverless functions (Cloud Run/Cloud Functions).
● API Management: Familiarity with Apigee X or similar API gateways.
