Description

Civil Engineering Project Manager

Single-Family Residential Land Development

Location: Fort Worth, Texas

Are you an experienced land development engineer who enjoys managing projects but could live without timesheets, constant proposal writing, and chasing down the next client?

Our client is a well-established, privately held real estate development organization in Fort Worth that is seeking a Civil Engineering Project Manager to join its in-house engineering team.

This is a unique opportunity to continue practicing civil engineering while working directly within the development side of the business. Rather than serving a revolving door of outside clients, you will collaborate closely with land development, construction, and other internal decision-makers to move residential communities from initial planning and entitlement through design, permitting, and construction.

In other words, you will have the opportunity to see what happens after the plans leave your desk.

The Opportunity

The Civil Engineering Project Manager will be responsible for managing the design and development of single-family residential communities throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth region.

This person will work with internal leadership, engineers, designers, surveyors, municipalities, utility providers, and outside consultants to keep projects moving forward. The role offers meaningful project ownership, direct access to decision-makers, and the ability to influence projects from their earliest stages through construction.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Managing single-family residential land development projects from initial planning through final design, permitting, bidding, and construction

  • Preparing and overseeing civil engineering plans for grading, drainage, water, sanitary sewer, roadways, paving, and related public infrastructure

  • Coordinating plats, construction plans, permits, and approvals with municipalities and other regulatory agencies

  • Working closely with internal development and construction teams to establish project priorities, schedules, and budgets

  • Coordinating with surveyors, planners, geotechnical engineers, environmental consultants, utility providers, and other project partners

  • Providing technical direction and mentorship to engineering and Civil 3D design staff

  • Reviewing plans, reports, calculations, specifications, and cost estimates for accuracy and completeness

  • Monitoring project schedules, budgets, approvals, and construction-related issues

  • Participating in meetings with municipalities, utility districts, contractors, and other project stakeholders

  • Assisting with bidding, construction administration, field coordination, and the resolution of design or construction issues

  • Identifying potential problems early and developing practical solutions before they become expensive ones

  • Helping improve internal engineering standards, processes, and quality-control procedures

What Makes This Different?

This is not a traditional consulting position.

The engineering team works directly alongside the people acquiring, developing, and building the communities it designs. That creates a much clearer connection between engineering decisions and the final result.

The successful candidate will enjoy:

  • A substantial and ongoing pipeline of single-family residential land development work

  • Projects that are actively moving toward development and construction

  • Direct communication with company leadership and internal decision-makers

  • Greater visibility into the financial, operational, and construction sides of land development

  • The opportunity to manage projects without being expected to spend half the week selling the next one

  • A smaller-team environment where individual contributions are visible and meaningful

  • Hands-on experience across the complete development lifecycle

  • Competitive compensation and a comprehensive employee benefits package

For someone who enjoys the technical and project management sides of land development but is tired of utilization reports, endless scope negotiations, and trying to collect invoices that are six months old, the in-house model can be a pretty refreshing change.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering

  • Approximately 6 to 15 years of civil engineering experience

  • Strong experience in single-family residential land development

  • Experience managing projects involving grading, drainage, water, sanitary sewer, paving, roadways, and related infrastructure

  • Working knowledge of the land development, entitlement, platting, and permitting processes in North Texas

  • Experience coordinating projects with municipalities, utility providers, consultants, and contractors

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D

  • Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills

  • The ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and competing priorities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • A Texas Professional Engineer license is strongly preferred

  • Experience working directly for a developer, homebuilder, or other private-sector owner would be beneficial but is not required

Our client is an equal opportunity employer. Employment decisions are based on qualifications, merit, and business needs. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran status, disability, or any other classification protected by applicable federal, state, or local law.
