The AES R&P Operations team is hiring an experienced asset manager to manage complex asset portfolios in the energy field. The Senior Asset Manager position will support coaching and development of peers while leading reporting, oversight, and coordination for a portfolio of energy assets.

 

Asset managers are critical to the operation of our large fleet of energy projects across the United States to ensure optimal financial performance of the company’s rapidly growing fleet.  Responsibilities include management of project financials, risk, contracts, and stakeholders. Clear communication is essential when reporting and coordinating internally and externally. This role also requires compliance management and administrative tasks as well as oversight of the operations and maintenance activities at each asset.

 

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversee a portfolio of complex renewable energy assets.
• Enhance and automate core processes and interactions with other teams within AES Renewables & Power.
• Be an Owner’s Representative tasked with managing AES R&P’s interest in several project portfolios.
• Oversee project financial matters (P&L responsibility), perform cost-benefit analyses, and continuously explain variance to budget/forecast.
• Support resolution or mitigation of any major plant outages as appropriate.
• Collaborate extensively to identify opportunities that unlock additional revenue, minimize risk, and/or lower expenses.

 

Project Administration, Compliance, and Stakeholder Management

• Be the subject matter expert on all compliance and commercial obligations pursuant to project governing documents while ensuring strict compliance across Power Purchase Agreements, Hedge Agreements, Interconnection Agreements, site control documents, Financing Agreements, and LLC Agreements.
• Maintain the integrity and accuracy of data contained in AES Clean Energy’s renewable energy information system that tracks compliance and key project data by proactively reviewing and summarizing deliverables of contracts and other project documents.
• Prepare recurring reports on project performance for internal and external parties and respond to inquiries.
• Ensure the complete all compliance obligations pursuant to contract requirements and regulatory agencies (including EIA, CEC, FERC) in timely fashion.
• Identify opportunities to optimize the financial results while balancing risk through solid management decisions and/or innovative approaches.
• Interface with origination, development, project execution, project finance, and construction management groups to ensure smooth and timely transition of projects into commercial operation, as appropriate.
• Manage day-to-day stakeholder relationships by developing and maintaining positive work relationships with local and state authorities, financing and investors partners, regulatory agencies, landowners, and other entities.
• Manage and resolve any contractual, regulatory, and commercial issues as they arise.

 

Desired Experience and Skills

• 3-5+ years of relevant energy industry experience
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate work while coaching and mentoring others
• Exceptional organizational, decision making/problem solving, analytical and time management skills.
• Detail-oriented and self-motivated with exceptional presentation and communication skills and ability to work with little supervision
• Strong learning skills with aptitude to independently research, understand, and implement knowledge in new areas
• Strong commercial mindset and demonstrates aptitude to support a high-performance organization that will deliver operational excellence and meet or exceed financial targets
• Proven ability to organize and prioritize work, creative thinker, and able to manage relationships with colleagues and contractors
• Strong understanding of project finance, legal contracts, accounting, and
• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite Office
• Able to demonstrate experience dealing successfully with peers, subordinates, senior management, and unaffiliated third parties
• Passion for renewable energy industry and demonstrates intimate knowledge of the renewable energy market, and the ability to stay current with changing technologies, regulations, and trends influencing the continued adoption of renewable energy.

 

Education

• BA/BS degree preferred with concentration in finance, accounting, economics, engineering, and/or other quantitative fields.
• MBA or similar Master’s degree preferred.

 

Working Conditions

• Office location is Louisville, Colorado, United States.
• Travel will be required between offices and to project sites.
• Approximately 10% travel.

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $105,000 and $131,325/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position also includes annual bonus. The benefits offered for this position are: medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, 401(k) eligibility, and paid time off (including vacation, sick leave time, and parental leave).
