Job Summary

Develops and implements mechanical engineering solutions for architectural lighting fixtures and controls. Analyses components and system performance to optimize hardware functionalities and reliability. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to innovate and improve product designs.

Key Areas of Responsibility

• Responsible for the design, realization, integration and testing of a (sub)system, component or module on the basis of design specifications in accordance with the functional specifications; understands and communicates consequences of his/her design on the architecture.

• Executes and manages product design from concept to production including design, prototyping, debug, validation, testing and certification.

Design enclosures that meet specific Ingress Protection (IP) ratings, impact resistance (IK ratings), and corrosion resistance for outdoor or industrial environments.

• Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and tolerance stack-up analyses to optimize part performance and durability.

• Generate precise 2D production drawings with proper Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per industry standards.

• Create and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs) and process Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) within Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems. 

• Makes independent choices regarding professional aspects of the design. Gives reasons for changes in specification.

• Verify compliance with relevant industry standards and internal quality requirements.

• Responsible for performing tasks directly and working with others to drive projects forward.

• Enforce high quality design methods throughout product cycle to ensure product reliability and safety.

• Creative problem solving and multi-tasking.

• Patent creation.

Critical Experiences
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, or a closely related field, providing foundational knowledge in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and materials science.
• Experience in thermal and mechanical design and analysis within research and development environments, focusing on hardware innovation and product development.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification in Mechanical or Thermal Engineering is highly recommended to validate technical competence and adherence to industry standards.

• Keeps abreast of technical developments in own field through study of the literature and technical contacts, in order to maintain expertise in the specified area.

• Applies advanced technical principles, theories and concepts.

• Provides Mechanical/Thermal/System engineering expertise throughout organization.

• Knowledge in materials and finishing technologies to protect from harsh environments

• Assists in the development of technical specifications and processes for future products and technologies.

• Experience with and supporting others using Siemens Teamcenter PLM is a plus.
