Description

Business Development Consultant (Part-Time / Hourly) Applied Computational Engineering & TRACE Simulation

Company Summary

Triton Systems, Inc. combines 30+ years of experience with exciting growth and innovation opportunities within the product development and R&D space. We support Government and commercial markets by delivering advanced solutions across applications in defense, security, aerospace, energy, environmental sustainability, and human health. Where we see a larger opportunity, we create new companies to scale these solutions into businesses.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced, well-connected Business Development Consultant to provide dedicated support to our Applied Computational Engineering group and our commercial software branch, TRACE Simulation. This is a part-time, hourly consulting role focused on transitioning advanced software prototypes and research-level capabilities into viable, market-ready products.

In this role, you will lead market outreach, expand industry networking, and set up high-level introductions across target sectors. The ideal candidate brings a proven track record of software commercialization and transition, with deep connections and domain expertise in the defense and aerospace industries.

Duties and Responsibilities

Market Strategy and Product Commercialization

  • Identify, evaluate, and pursue transition pathways for applied computational engineering tools and TRACE Simulation software.
  • Help define product-market fit, value propositions, and go-to-market strategies for commercial and government customers.
  • Advise technical teams on customer requirements to guide the packaging of software capabilities into scalable commercial offerings.

Business Development, Networking, and Lead Generation

  • Leverage existing industry networks to set up introductory meetings, technical briefings, and software demonstrations with key decision-makers.
  • Expand Triton's footprint across defense, aerospace, and commercial simulation markets.
  • Build and maintain a qualified pipeline of government program offices, prime contractors, and commercial enterprise clients.

Client Engagement and Capture Support

  • Facilitate software transition opportunities into DoD programs of record, government research facilities, and commercial engineering teams.
  • Support proposal efforts, customer presentations, and partnership negotiations.
  • Coordinate closely with the Applied Computational Engineering team to align customer requirements with technical milestones.

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance if required.
  • Demonstrated success in technical business development, software sales, or product transition within engineering software or computational technologies.
  • Established, active professional network within the defense, aerospace, and government R&D ecosystems.
  • Proven experience transitioning advanced software technologies to government clients and prime contractors.
  • Excellent interpersonal, networking, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to operate independently as a self-starter in a flexible, part-time consulting capacity.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with modeling, simulation, and applied computational engineering applications.
  • Familiarity with DoD software acquisition pathways, SBIR/STTR Phase III transitions, and government contracting vehicles.
  • Prior experience commercializing dual-use software products.

Engagement Details and Education

  • Engagement Type: Part-time consultancy, hourly compensation commensurate with experience.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (Advanced degree preferred).
  • Experience: 8+ years of relevant business development, capture, or software commercialization experience.
  • Location: Remote with occasional travel for client meetings and presentations as needed.
