The Gist…
The Technical Writer supports the organization's IT Policy and Compliance program by researching, drafting, editing, and maintaining policy, process, and governance documentation across IT Lifecycle Management, Policy Analysis and Compliance, IT Process and System Optimization, and Executive Order and Mandate Management. This role translates complex regulatory, technical, and procedural requirements into clear, actionable, and standardized documentation that supports organizational decision-making, regulatory alignment, and stakeholder collaboration.
The Technical Writer works closely with research analysts, policy analysts, IT leadership, compliance staff, and cross-functional stakeholders to produce documentation that is accurate, consistent, and accessible to both technical and non-technical audiences.
What Your Day Might Include…
- Research and synthesize information from regulatory documents, technical reports, subject matter expert interviews, and existing organizational documentation.
- Write, edit, and format policy documents, procedures, briefings, executive summaries, and process guides to a consistent organizational standard.
- Develop and maintain document templates, style guides, and taxonomies to support standardization across the policy library.
- Manage the documentation lifecycle drafting, stakeholder review, revision tracking, approval routing, and final publication.
- Collaborate with IT policy analysts, compliance staff, legal reviewers, and IT leadership to ensure accuracy and consistency of content.
- Maintain a centralized repository of current, superseded, and in-progress policy and process documents.
- Ensure all documentation meets organizational plain-language and accessibility standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Technical Writing, Information Technology, Public Policy, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience as a technical writer, preferably supporting IT policy, compliance, or governance documentation.
- Experience mentoring junior technical writers.
- Strong research, analytical, and writing skills, with the ability to translate complex technical and regulatory material into clear, concise documentation.
- Expert with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and document collaboration/version control tools (e.g., SharePoint, Confluence, or similar).
- Attention to detail, particularly in maintaining accuracy across compliance-related documentation.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent documentation projects and deadlines.
- Position may be remote or hybrid depending on client requirements.
