Senior Project Manager | Multifamily & Mixed-Use

Overview

Our client is an established, award-winning architecture and design firm known for thoughtful work, strong client partnerships, and a collaborative studio culture. We are seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead large, complex multifamily and mixed-use projects. This is a hybrid position based in Long Beach, California.

Position Description

The Senior Project Manager will have overall responsibility for projects from pursuit, proposal, and contract development through design, documentation, permitting, construction administration, and closeout. Serving as the primary client liaison, this leader will guide multidisciplinary teams while managing scope, fees, contracts, schedules, budgets, staffing, quality, and delivery.

Responsibilities

• Lead the firm’s largest and most complex multifamily and mixed-use projects, or multiple mid-sized assignments, through all phases of architectural service.

• Develop, estimate, and negotiate proposals, including scope of work, fees, schedules, staffing plans, consultant requirements, and project contracts.

• Serve as the primary client liaison, building trusted relationships and maintaining clear, responsive communication.

• Create and maintain project work plans, schedules, staffing projections, and resource needs; communicate changes to operational leaders.

• Manage project financial performance, including budgets, forecasting, billing, collections, and consultant invoices.

• Administer contracts, retainers, amendments, additional services, and change-of-service documentation.

• Lead project kickoffs, team and client meetings, post-project reviews, agendas, minutes, directories, and information flow.

• Coordinate project architects, designers, technical staff, and consultants while leading quality-control reviews at key milestones.

• Guide permitting, agency review, corrections, and other approval processes.

• Oversee bid documentation, pre-bid coordination, requests for information, addenda, construction administration, and closeout.

• Support repeat and new business opportunities through strong client service, networking, and pursuit leadership.

• Mentor team members and help strengthen project-management and technical capabilities across the studio.

Skills & Requirements

• 10+ years of relevant professional experience, including at least 5 years of project-management responsibility within a full-service architecture firm.

• Demonstrated experience leading multifamily and mixed-use architectural projects.

• Proven success delivering large, complex projects across design, documentation, permitting, bidding, and construction administration.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture or a related field preferred.

• Professional architectural licensure preferred.

• Advanced knowledge of construction, detailing, building codes, agency approvals, and quality-control practices.

• Strong command of contracts, scope development, project financials, staffing, forecasting, and negotiation.

• Confident client leadership, presentation, communication, and relationship-management skills.

• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and relevant business and project-management tools.
