Recruitment Range:  $48,921.60-$56,872.40 annually, depending on knowledge and experience.


QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Event Management, Marketing, Recreation Management, Hospitality Management, or other related degree; 
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience planning and coordinating events and programs.
 
Licenses or Certifications:
  • Possession of an appropriate driver’s license for equipment operated and any license, training, or certification required by law or regulation to complete assigned tasks.

JOB SUMMARY
The Parks & Recreation Event Specialist performs administrative and supervisory work with responsibility for planning and coordinating special events held at the Community Maritime Park, to include oversight of special events, parking, and vending programs. 
 
An employee in this class performs those tasks required to implement the strategy of the City of Pensacola as it relates to marketing community activities for all citizens. The primary duties include coordinating events, community functions, special promotions, parking and vending program(s) management, and performs related duties as assigned. 
 
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Plans, organizes, and implements special events for the community, including concerts, parades, art exhibits, craft shows, etc. 
  • Coordinates marketing, program development, budget management, set-up, media coverage, invitations, permitting requirements, legal and security requirements, and any event logistics. 
  • Assists in venue usage planning, programming, and coordinating. 
  • Coordinates with City departments, citizens, and organized groups in the use of specialized equipment and property specific to that event. 
  • Works with community partners to organize community-based events. 
  • Performs tasks associated with the management of all special event organizers, contractors, and vendors. 
  • Prepares a special event manual and monitors that all special event procedures are followed in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the City of Pensacola and the Mayor’s initiatives. 
  • Maintains routine records and prepares reports. 
  • Works with higher management regarding special events and internal operations regarding policies, procedures, and as needed changes in the moment in crisis situations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Considerable knowledge of principles and techniques of public recreation techniques. 
  • Knowledge of event planning and entertainment booking sources. 
  • Knowledge of deadlines and operations needed to communicate effectively with the public. 
  • Knowledge of principles, theories, philosophy, and techniques of marketing, promoting, and advertising programs, events, and facilities. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public. 
  • Ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of subordinates.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to hold or feel, reach with hands and arms, walk, talk, smell, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, crouch, and crawl. Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, and depth perception. 
 
The employee regularly lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 100 pounds. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT
An employee in this job is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, and has a risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment may be loud.
