The Opportunity:

The Office of Student Services within Washington State University's College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (CPPS) is seeking a Director of Student Success and Advising to join our team!

The Office of Student Services in the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (CPPS) is an energetic and highly fast-paced environment where we rely heavily on current technologies to meet the demands of the Doctor of Pharmacy students and our stakeholders.

Reporting to the Associate Dean, you will hold a pivotal role in the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (CPPS) by developing advising staff and programs to ensure the successful retention and graduation of enrolled students in the professional Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program.


As the Director, you will supervise and develop the Academic and Student Success Advisors, who support student success and progression through activities such as course registration, career exploration, student mentoring program, mid-semester evaluation of students at risk, student concerns and discipline, progression statuses, Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and co-curricular, end of semester grading, and on-time graduation. You will maintain a caseload of approximately 90 – 100 students.

In this position, you will be charged researching, recommending, and employing strategies to meet the college’s objectives for student academic success and retention. You possess comprehensive knowledge of, and ensures team compliance with, university, state, and federal laws, policies, and regulation.

In collaboration and coordination with the Associate Dean, you will adeptly handle escalated, sensitive, or complex student issues and offers competent guidance and support to aid faculty and staff in effectively navigating these challenges.

As the Director, you will establish positive and effective partnerships with key individuals in the university, state, and western region.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time (100% FTE), permanent, overtime eligible position.


Monthly Salary: $5,400.00 - $6,550.00 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications

This is the budgeted salary range for this position.

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of full-time academic advising experience in a college or university or relevant professional experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional academic advising experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis.

  • Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques, with the ability to build trust and provide safe, supportive opportunities for students, from varied backgrounds, including, but not limited to, underrepresented, first generation, and/or high needs, to identify and pursue paths to graduation that support their educational goals and post-graduation plans.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and respectfully interact with students, faculty, and staff of diverse social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds, and an understanding of the institutional barriers and equity gaps faced by historically under-served student populations in higher education.

  • Demonstrated experience with oral presentation, written communication, and ability to quickly acquire working knowledge of the policies, principles, and procedures of the university.

  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to communicate effectively, collegially, and collaboratively with diverse students, staff, faculty, community members, and other internal and external stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to support, collaborate, and build team cohesion.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous work experience with a health sciences or other professional educational program with emphasis on academic advising and/or counseling, student progress and enforcing student related policies and procedures.

  • Two years supervisory experience including but not limited to hiring, training, evaluation, and recommending disciplinary/corrective action.

  • Experience working with diverse faculty, students, and staff.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with an enterprise student management system.

  • Familiarity with Washington State University academic rules and regulations.

  • A Master’s or Doctorate degree in related field.
