Job Summary

The SSD Validation (Test Development) Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining performance and power validation test cases for Micron data center SSD products. The role focuses on translating product, customer, and industry requirements into scalable test methodologies, automated test cases, and validation frameworks to ensure comprehensive performance coverage and high product quality.

Working closely with Performance Validation Leads, Firmware, System Architecture, Infrastructure, and Customer Performance teams, the engineer develops the validation strategies, test plans, and best practices while ensuring timely test enablement aligned with program milestones. The engineer is also expected to leverage modern software development practices, automation, and AI-assisted tools to improve engineering productivity, test effectiveness, and continuous improvement across the validation ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

Test Development & Automation

• Design, develop, maintain, and optimize performance and power validation test cases for data center SSDs.
• Work closely with Performance Validation Leads to understand program-specific validation requirements and priorities.

• Review performance and power requirements from Micron specifications, customer requirements, PCIe/NVMe standards, and lessons learned.
• Translate requirements into automated performance and power validation test cases and solutions for data center SSDs.

• Perform sanity validation before releasing test solutions for deployment.

Performance Validation & Test Strategy

• Own, develop, and maintain performance validation test plans, methodologies, processes, and best practices across SSD programs.
• Identify validation gaps and define comprehensive test coverage to ensure performance and power requirements are fully validated.
• Drive improvements in test efficiency, execution scalability, automation coverage, data collection, and reporting capabilities.

Collaboration & On-Time Test Enablement

• Collaborate with Firmware, System Architecture, Infrastructure, and Customer Performance teams to clarify requirements, understand firmware feature implementations, and improve test solutions.
• Ensure test development aligns with firmware feature enablement schedules and program milestones.
• Track and communicate test readiness, coverage status, and risks to relevant stakeholders.

Software Development Practices

• Support Git-based development workflows, branch management, automated build systems, and continuous integration pipelines.
• Participate in test design and code reviews to ensure high-quality, scalable, and maintainable validation solutions.
• Maintain code quality, documentation standards, and reusable software components.
• Follow iterative development practices to ensure rapid delivery of validation solutions.

Artificial Intelligence & Continuous Improvement

• Integrate AI-assisted tools and insights into daily work to improve engineering productivity, quality, and effectiveness while adhering to organizational standards and legal requirements.

• Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by identifying, testing, and sharing AI-enabled enhancements within one's scope of work.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills.
• Strong proficiency in Python programming and experience developing automated test solutions, frameworks, or validation tools.
• Experience in SSD validation test development, including design, implementation, automation, and qualification of test cases for performance, power, or firmware feature validation.
• Strong understanding of SSD architecture, performance, and power characteristics, including latency, bandwidth, IOPS, QoS, and power metrics.

• Familiarity with PCIe and NVMe storage interface protocols, Windows and Linux operating systems, and Git-based software development practices.

• Ability to apply AI-enabled tools responsibly and effectively for research, analysis, content creation, problem-solving, operational tasks, and achieving business outcomes.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and findings effectively.
