Job Details
We are seeking a dedicated Food Service Assistant I to support the Food & Nutrition Services team by performing essential sanitation, ware washing, and utility functions. This role is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment while ensuring compliance with food safety, infection prevention, and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will be dependable, safety-conscious, and committed to providing excellent service in a healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain dishwashing and ware washing equipment efficiently and safely.
- Monitor and record dish machine temperatures according to departmental procedures.
- Clean and sanitize pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment using proper procedures and solutions.
- Test and maintain sanitizer levels in the pot washing area.
- Follow established sanitation, infection prevention, and food safety standards.
- Properly use cleaning chemicals according to manufacturer instructions and safety guidelines.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including timely trash removal and recycling disposal.
- Adhere to all hospital safety requirements, State Board of Health regulations, and other applicable standards.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves and protective clothing, as required.
- Demonstrate compassion, professionalism, and respect when interacting with patients, families, visitors, and team members.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, hazards, or safety concerns to management.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Knowledge of food service sanitation practices and safety procedures preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lift, carry, and transport up to 30 pounds.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequent bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying, reaching, twisting, handling, stooping, and climbing.
- Must be able to pass a physical examination and be drug-free.
- Must be able to hear, speak, see, and ambulate independently.
Working Conditions
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals and sanitation products.
- Exposure to hot equipment, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezer environments.
- Potential exposure to infectious materials through returned patient trays and dish room operations.
- Work around commercial kitchen equipment and machinery.
