SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Manager of Learning Technologies provides leadership for the college's learning management system (LMS), educational technology, and eLearning initiatives. The position oversees the administration, integration, and continuous improvement of learning technologies; develops and delivers training and support resources; and collaborates with Information Technology and campus stakeholders to ensure reliable, secure, accessible, and compliant technology services that support teaching and learning. The position supervises the eLearning Coordinator and works collaboratively across the college to advance student success, instructional excellence, and innovation in teaching and learning.

This is an exempt position that reports to the Dean of Instruction and is a member of the Teaching and Learning Support Department.

Strategic Leadership & Program Development

  • Provide vision, leadership, and strategic direction for eLearning and learning technologies.
  • Lead the continuous development, evaluation, and expansion of eLearning programs, services, and technologies that support student success, engagement, retention, and equitable access.
  • Collaborate with instructional leaders, deans, faculty, Information Technology, and student services to support the college's teaching and learning goals.
  • Develop and implement eLearning policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines that align with institutional priorities, accreditation requirements, and regulatory expectations.
  • Assist with department and institutional planning by establishing goals, priorities, assessment measures, and strategic initiatives related to learning technologies and online learning.
  • Represent the college in internal and external committees, councils, workgroups, and professional organizations related to eLearning and educational technology.

Faculty Development & Instructional Support

  • Provide leadership, consultation, training, and support to faculty in the effective use of learning technologies and online teaching tools.
  • Develop, coordinate, and facilitate workshops, training programs, and resource materials related to Canvas, instructional technologies, accessibility, and online teaching best practices.
  • Create and maintain guidance, documentation, knowledge-base articles, and support resources for faculty and staff.
  • Support faculty with LMS-related activities, including course creation, course copies, course merges, user management, and system navigation.
  • Promote effective and accessible use of educational technologies and support faculty adoption of new learning tools and technology-enhanced teaching practices.

Learning Technology Administration & Innovation

  • Lead the administration, configuration, support, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the college's Learning Management System (LMS) and related educational technology platforms.
  • Manage LMS roles, permissions, integrations, workflows, and processes to meet evolving institutional and instructional needs.
  • Work closely with third-party vendors, Information Technology, and SBCTC to implement, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize learning technology solutions.
  • Research, evaluate, test, recommend, and implement new educational technologies and LMS enhancements aligned with institutional goals.
  • Communicate system updates, feature releases, planned maintenance, and technology changes to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Monitor system performance, user experience, and technology utilization to identify opportunities for improvement and increased effectiveness.

Technology Continuity, Compliance & Accessibility

  • Partner closely with Information Technology to develop, maintain, and continuously improve technology continuity, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans related to learning technologies.
  • Establish, implement, and monitor policies, procedures, and standards that support compliance with FERPA, accessibility regulations, accreditation requirements, records-retention requirements, and other applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Foster a secure, accessible, and compliant digital learning environment for students, faculty, and staff.

Operations, Budget & Personnel Management

  • Develop, manage, and monitor eLearning budgets, contracts, software licensing agreements, and technology resources.
  • Supervise, mentor, train, and evaluate assigned staff, including the eLearning Coordinator.
  • Establish departmental priorities, assign work, and monitor progress toward operational goals and service expectations.
  • Serve as a liaison among instructional divisions, Information Technology, student services, administration, vendors, and external partners to resolve issues and improve services.
  • Prepare reports, analyses, recommendations, and communications regarding eLearning operations, technologies, usage, compliance, and strategic initiatives.
  • Support special projects and other college initiatives related to teaching, learning, and educational technology.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Three (3) years of Learning Management System (LMS) administration experience, including Canvas or comparable platforms such as Moodle, D2L Brightspace, Blackboard, or similar enterprise learning systems.
  • Experience supporting faculty and students in the use of instructional technologies and online learning environments.
  • Experience designing and delivering training or professional development for adult learners.
  • Knowledge of online learning best practices, instructional design principles, accessibility standards, and educational technology tools.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, project management, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Education, Educational Technology, Instructional Design, Higher Education, or a related field.
  • Canvas LMS experience
  • Experience working in higher education or adult learning environments
  • Experience supervising staff and managing budgets.
Compensation & Work Schedule
Salary placement is $7,738 per month. This is a 40-hours per week, exempt position.  This position is on-campus 3-4 days per week.
