National Interstate is looking for a Data Engineer to join their team. This individual will either work hybrid from the Richfield, OH office 3 days per week.
National Interstate’s culture is built on connection, shared learning, and strong relationships. To support this, employees in this role are expected to be on-site a minimum of three days a week, with the potential to work two days remotely. Core in‑office days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday but will be determined by business needs.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
Defines and governs the enterprise data architecture, including conceptual, logical, and physical models, data flows, and integration strategies that support business objectives.
Leads the design and governance of data integration solutions and oversees the optimization of databases, data warehouses, and analytical environments to ensure performance, scalability, and resilience.
Establishes and enforces enterprise standards for data modeling, metadata, and governance, including policies and controls to ensure data quality, security, and regulatory compliance.
Conducts analysis to define requirements for data acquisition, access, and usage, enabling informed, data-driven decisions. Leads the development and of data governance policies and controls, ensuring data quality, security, and regulatory compliance.
Evaluates and recommends emerging data technologies and practices to enhance architecture and analytics capabilities.
Oversees the creation and maintenance of comprehensive documentation for data architecture, standards, and governance processes.
Collaborates with senior stakeholders across business and technology teams, influencing strategic initiatives and ensuring data architecture supports enterprise priorities.
Provides thought leadership through workshops, advisory sessions, and guidance on enterprise data architecture and strategy.
May have responsibility for performance and coaching of staff and may have a participatory role in decisions regarding talent selection, development, and performance management for direct reports.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in information technology, Computer Science or a related field.
Prefer: Informatica Cloud, Snowflake, ODS, ETO experience
Experience: Generally, a minimum of 14 years of experience in data architecture, data management, or a related field. Completion of or continuing progress toward a professional designation preferred, such as Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) or AWS Certified Big Data – Specialty.
Scope of Job/Qualifications: Defines and leads the development of enterprise data architectures that align with organizational strategy, business objectives, and governance requirements. Demonstrated proficiency in data modeling, database design, SQL, ETL processes, and data integration tools. Experience with cloud data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud). Solves highly technical and complex problems based on multiple projects and provides consultative support to internal staff. Works on multiple projects as a project leader or as a subject matter expert. Demonstrates the ability to analyze complex data requirements and design effective data solutions. Meticulous in ensuring data accuracy and integrity. Works on projects/issues of moderate to high complexity that requires in-depth knowledge across multiple technical areas and business segments. Performs work under limited supervision. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels. Ability to lead data architecture initiatives and mentor junior team members. Recognized as a subject matter expert across the organization.
