Meaningful Work From Day One
This position reports to the APAC Regional Counsel based in Singapore. This role will support the Regional Counsel with responsibility for sales, regulatory and general commercial matters relating to Brown-Forman’s business in Asia, Australia and New Zealand. This role offers excellent exposure to cross-border commercial transactions, corporate legal matters, and regional business operations across APAC. It is an ideal opportunity for a junior legal professional looking to develop an in-house legal career within a multinational organization.
What You Can Expect
Commercial Support. Support your business stakeholders in their contract negotiations. Negotiate, review, analyze and/or draft commercial contracts with customers, distributors and vendors in the region in English and other languages. Assess and provide guidance on competition law risks. Collaborate closely with business and procurement teams across the region. Assist with the contract administration , management and filing.
Corporate Maintenance. Corporate maintenance of our companies throughout the region in close collaboration with the accounting and tax departments. Draft and track various intercompany agreements and arrangements.
Regulatory & Marketing. Review beverage alcohol advertising, marketing and promotions developed for certain regional markets to ensure compliance with legal requirements, voluntary industry codes of conduct, and internal standards;
Advise and train B-F employees and agents as they develop and/or execute advertising, marketing, promotional, sales, compliance or other programs relating to B-F’s Business in certain regional markets;
Advise media placement agencies to ensure placement guidelines are met;
Assists in negotiations and other interactions with governmental regulatory agencies throughout the region;
Monitor legal, regulatory, and industry developments impacting beverage alcohol products and business operations; Communicate and recommend responses to local leadership in collaboration with the public affairs team.
Compliance. Contribute to existing strong compliance culture by engaging with and motivating diverse stakeholders at all levels, delivering compliance-related training with respect to, among others, competition law, anti-bribery and privacy and implementing compliance-related policies, processes, procedures and controls.
Managing Outside Counsel. In collaboration with the Regional Counsel, supporting the process of engaging and managing outside counsel in the regions.
General Legal Support and other responsibilities. In collaboration with the Regional Counsel, provide day-to-day commercial legal support, business focused advice, and counsel to the sales, marketing and procurement organization. Effectively communicate legal concepts to stakeholders in collaboration with and with support from other members of the legal team. Support the continuous improvement of standard agreements, policies and processes. Legal operations development and project management. Other legal tasks as needed.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration. Serve as the primary legal point of contact for your business stakeholders. Collaborate closely with global legal colleagues to ensure consistency of legal advice, policies, and risk tolerance.Contribute to the development of global legal policies, templates, and training materials informed by APAC requirements.
Travel: this role may require some travel
What You Bring to the Table
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Law;
Preferably top tier law firm training;
Prior legal experience, preferably in the areas and job duties identified above (3 years). Experience with corporate multinationals in the region would be an asset;
Strong business acumen and ability to spot business issues and offer timely, practical legal solutions;
Ability to self-start, work independently and efficiently with limited guidance;
Strong collaboration and consensus-building skills and the ability to communicate in English clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing;
Experience handling multiple tasks and multiple clients; would be an asset.
