The Office Engineer provides administrative and office engineering support and coordination for Civil Program Management group. This position requires good communication (both verbal and written) skills, good independent decision making capabilities, and a clear understanding of when issues need to get escalated to the RE. This position also requires a familiarity with the MS Office software. Primavera Experience is desired but not required.
Projects are located in Los Angeles County.
Responsibilities
The Office Engineer supports construction projects by managing contract documentation, reviewing progress estimates and extra work bills, and analyzing project plans and specifications. The job requires experience and familiarity with the following:
- Contract Administration: Prepare and maintain complete, accurate construction records, files, and project documentation.
- Estimates and Payments: Review daily extra work bills from contractors, check quantity estimates submitted by field engineers, and compile monthly and final progress payment packages.
- Plans and Schedules: Analyze project plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) to identify issues, ensure constructability, and track progress schedules.
- Communication and Support: Act on behalf of the Resident Engineer in their absence, communicate instructions to staff or contractors, and respond to inquiries.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Receive Extra bills from construction contractors. Analyze Extra Work Bills (EWB) for accuracy, advise contractor and Resident Engineer of discrepancies, and enter accurate EWB into the Progress Pay System. Extra Work Bills result from work done under contract change orders.
- Prepare construction contract change orders and transmittal memorandums based upon input provided by the Resident Engineer and Field Engineer(s).
- Ensure that all contract documents are filed using the filing system
- Develop and review quantity calculations and monitor quantities and expenditures on the contracts. Maintain complete and accurate project records.
Skills:
Strong analytical and math skills, knowledge of highway construction methods, and proficiency with contract specifications and standard plans.
Communication skills include the ability to write clear reports, communicate technical instructions, and collaborate with internal and external project teams.
Qualifications
The pay range for this California position is $35 - $70 per hour. Base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
