Job's mission
As a Senior Field Service Engineer I at ASM, you will play a critical role in supporting our customers by installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing advanced semiconductor capital equipment. You will serve as a technical expert in the field, delivering exceptional customer service while ensuring equipment performance, reliability, and safety. This position offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge semiconductor technology, collaborate with global teams, and support customers across domestic and international locations.
What you will be working on
- Perform installation, startup, qualification, preventative maintenance, and remedial repair activities on complex semiconductor capital equipment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, vacuum, and software-related equipment issues in customer manufacturing environments.
- Provide timely and professional technical support while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction and equipment uptime.
- Interpret and utilize electrical schematics, engineering drawings, and technical documentation to diagnose and resolve equipment issues.
- Support equipment upgrades, modifications, retrofits, and process improvement initiatives.
- Document service activities, maintenance actions, and technical findings accurately and thoroughly.
- Collaborate with engineering, technical support, and customer teams to resolve complex technical issues and improve equipment performance.
- Deliver technical training and knowledge transfer to customer personnel as required.
- Maintain compliance with ASM and customer safety requirements while working in semiconductor manufacturing environments.
- Travel domestically and internationally to support customer installations, upgrades, and service requirements.
What we are looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electro-Mechanical Technology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent military or industry experience may be considered.
- 5+ years of field service, semiconductor manufacturing, or customer-facing technical support experience involving complex capital equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with microprocessor-controlled electro-mechanical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical, electronic, and electro-mechanical schematics and drawings.
- Experience performing equipment installations, preventative maintenance, repairs, and system diagnostics.
- Working knowledge of oscilloscopes, digital voltmeters (DVMs), and other diagnostic tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with customers and cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and technical reporting systems.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision while managing multiple priorities.
- Willingness and ability to travel as required to support customer needs.
What sets you apart
- Experience supporting semiconductor capital equipment within wafer fabrication environments.
- Knowledge of vacuum systems, gas delivery systems, electro-pneumatic controls, and semiconductor process equipment.
- Experience with RF-induced plasma technologies.
- Familiarity with robotics, motion control systems, servo systems, and microprocessor-based controllers.
- Understanding of equipment software fundamentals, control systems, and system integration.
- Experience working around hazardous chemicals, toxic gases, and flammable materials in semiconductor manufacturing environments.
- Strong root-cause analysis and structured problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to build strong customer relationships and deliver exceptional service in demanding production environments.
- Experience supporting international customers or working within a global service organization.
- Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, or training experience within technical service environments.
