About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Securities Trader in Corporate & Investment Banking as part of Markets.


In this role, you will:

  • Make markets and manage risk across Agency CMBS products, leveraging knowledge of broader CMBS sectors and structured credit markets to identify relative value opportunities, support client activity, and drive informed trading decisions.

  • Analyze commercial real estate fundamentals, loan-level collateral, cash flows, structure, and relative value opportunities to support trading and investment decisions.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with institutional clients, sales partners, research, structuring, origination, and risk teams to drive revenue growth and enhance client engagement.

  • Lead complex trading initiatives, identify market opportunities, and provide market color and insights across CMBS and commercial real estate sectors.

  • Oversee portfolio positioning, inventory management, and risk exposures while ensuring adherence to risk limits, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.

  • Monitor market developments, economic indicators, commercial real estate trends, and securitization activity to inform trading strategy and risk management.

  • Serve as a mentor and subject matter expert for junior traders and team members while contributing to the overall growth and development of the CMBS platform.


Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Securities Trading experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education


Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of Commercial Mortgage-Backed Securities (CMBS), Agency CMBS, and broader structured products markets.

  • Demonstrated experience trading securitized products and managing market, spread, liquidity, and credit risk.

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including the ability to evaluate commercial real estate collateral, loan performance, securitization structures, and relative value opportunities.

  • Knowledge of commercial real estate fundamentals, property sectors, capital markets, and macroeconomic drivers impacting CMBS performance.

  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with institutional clients and internal business partners.

  • Strong understanding of fixed income markets, structured credit products, securitization, and market-making activities.

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to articulate market views, trading strategies, and risk considerations to clients and internal stakeholders.

  • Highly motivated team player with the ability to manage multiple priorities and perform effectively in a fast-paced trading environment.

  • Ability to make informed decisions under pressure while maintaining a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and risk discipline.

  • Proficiency with market analytics, trading platforms, and commercial real estate or structured product analytical tools.

  • Demonstrated ability to leverage data analytics and AI tools to identify market opportunities, enhance trading strategies, and improve business outcomes.

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Real Estate, Mathematics, or a related field.

Job Expectations:

  • Obtaining and/or maintaining appropriate Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) license(s) is required for ongoing employment in this position. FINRA Securities Industry Essentials (SIE), Series 63 and Series 7 examinations must be completed within either a 90 or 180-day time period following commencement of employment, depending upon the number of license(s) needed if not immediately available to transfer upon hire. FINRA recognized equivalents will be accepted. This will be communicated at time of offer acceptance. Compliance with state law registration and licensing requirements is mandatory. In addition to state registration and licensing requirements, specific product licenses or SAFE licensing may apply. Additional requirements include meeting enhanced financial fitness and criminal background standards. Wells Fargo will initiate the FINRA licensing review process at the time of offer acceptance. For specific FINRA qualification exams obtained after 9/30/2018, the Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) exam co-requisite is required. 

  • This position is subject to FINRA background screening requirements. Candidates must successfully complete and pass a background check prior to hire. In accordance with FINRA rules, individuals who are subject to statutory disqualification are not eligible to be associated with a FINRA-registered broker-dealer. Successful candidates must also meet and comply with ongoing regulatory obligations, which include periodic screening and mandatory reporting of certain incidents.

  • Specific compliance policies may apply regarding outside activities or personal investing; affected employees will be expected to provide information to the Wells Fargo Personal Account Dealing Team and abide by applicable policy requirements if hired.
