Description
Purpose: To lead and direct the functions of the Human Resources (HR) department which includes the following key areas; employee relations, labor relations, compensation, training, employment, benefits, paid and unpaid leave, and overseeing company policies and practices. This position will be responsible for dealing with Bargaining Unit issues, grievances, and planning Union negotiations. This position will manage the HR Department and the front desk Receptionist/HR Assistant. This position will also be responsible for supporting the CEO and Executive Management Team regarding any administrative programs and change management initiatives.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required
- A minimum of five to seven years of human resource management experience to include:
- Employee relations
- Labor Relations
- Compensation

- Employment and Recruitment
- Three years' experience managing a HR Department
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Thorough knowledge of employment and labor related laws, regulations, and HR best practices
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
- Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization HRIS and applicant tracking system
- Demonstrated experience with HR metrics
- HR Certification preferred - SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR or SPHR
- Any equivalent combination of related education, training, and/or experience can be substituted for requirements listed above.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Partner with the leadership team to develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives that align with the overall business strategy
- Provide support and guidance to the HR staff
- Manage the recruitment and selection process by collaborating with managers to understand the skills and competencies required for openings and then recruit, interview, and hire qualified applicants
- Oversee and manage the performance appraisal process that helps drive performance
- Provide guidance and support to management and other staff regarding specialized and sensitive issues
- Analyze trends in compensation and benefits and recommend a Total Compensation package to the Board of Directors annually
- Investigate allegations of wrong doing and terminations
- Create learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees
- Support current and future business needs through the development, engagement, motivation, and preservation of human capital
- Assess training needs to apply and monitor training programs
- Work with the negotiating team and develop strategies that will help the team negotiate a contract that is both equitable and fair to the Cooperative and the Bargaining Unit
- Work closely with Legal Services to update the Cooperative's general personnel policies
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and review policies and practices.
- Provide support and guidance to the front desk Receptionist/HR Assistant.
