ABOUT MODERN MECHANICAL SERVICES
Modern Mechanical Services is a commercial HVACR and plumbing contractor serving commercial real estate, hospitality, private schools, healthcare, multi-site retail, and storage facilities across Texas. We already run a full HVACR service operation in Austin and San Antonio.
This role is the ground floor of our commercial plumbing division in Central Texas. Our plumbing division launched in DFW in February 2026 and is growing fast - Austin is the next market. You would be the first plumber on the ground here, working alongside an HVACR service crew that is already established, already dispatched, and already serving the buildings you would be walking into.
We are building a one-stop-shop for commercial building services. Systems, dispatch, documentation, and preventive maintenance are how we compete.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Run commercial plumbing service calls across the Austin metro, with travel to San Antonio as workload requires
- Diagnose and repair in occupied commercial buildings - offices, hotels and restaurants, schools, retail, and industrial facilities
- Service and repair water heaters, fixtures, drains, gas lines, supply lines, and grease waste systems
- Preventive maintenance routes - backflow testing, drain jetting, water heater service, fixture work
- Work alongside our HVACR service crew on shared sites, and assist other in-house trades as needed
- Support project and install work when service volume is light
- Document work cleanly in ServiceTrade so customers and the office know exactly what happened
- Help set the standard for how our plumbing division runs in Central Texas
Requirements
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Current Texas Journeyman Plumber license (TSBPE) - required
- Commercial plumbing service experience
- Able to work independently and make sound calls in the field, with a Master Plumber a phone call away
- Clean driving record and willingness to travel to San Antonio as needed
- Own hand tools
- Able to work cleanly and professionally in occupied commercial spaces
- Hungry, humble, and smart
NICE TO HAVE
- Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester (BPAT) endorsement
- Medical gas certification
- Grease interceptor, hydro-jetting, or camera/locating experience
- Experience with ServiceTrade or similar field service management software
- Interest in eventually helping build and lead a Central Texas plumbing crew
SCHEDULE & ON-CALL
Monday through Friday, standard daytime hours. Rotating on-call coverage.
Emergencies are emergencies - that's the trade. But we've built dispatch and documentation so our technicians don't get paged at 11pm for something a dispatcher should have handled. Planning and prevention are the product.
