Sandvik Mining | Import and Export Clerk – PNG |Lae, Papua New Guinea

We are seeking an experienced Import and Export Clerk to support our import and export operations and ensure efficient movement of goods throughout Papua New Guinea.

About the Opportunity

You will play a critical role in coordinating customs clearance activities and ensuring compliance with all import and export regulations. Working closely with freight providers, customs brokers, government agencies, warehouses, and internal stakeholders, you will help minimise delays, maintain accurate records, and ensure goods are delivered efficiently across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and monitor all customs clearance activities for incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Liaise with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and shipping providers to ensure timely clearance and delivery of goods.
  • Assist in resolving customs, freight, and documentation issues, including damages, variances, and non-conformances.
  • Prepare and maintain import and export documentation in accordance with PNG customs regulations.
  • Track and trace priority shipments, providing timely updates to stakeholders.
  • Support customs audits and provide documentation and information as required.
  • Ensure repair and return shipments are processed in line with customs requirements.
  • Monitor ageing shipments and work with freight providers and warehouses to resolve delays.
  • Coordinate stock return exports to suppliers and support the processing of associated credit notes.
  • Assist Finance with import documentation required for supplier invoice payments.
  • Maintain accurate customs and shipping records and ensure compliance with Sandvik policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to a safe, ethical, and high-performing workplace through adherence to Sandvik's Code of Conduct and Health, Safety and Environment standards.

About You

You are a highly organised who can work independently while managing multiple priorities. You have strong communication skills and build effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. Your attention to detail and commitment to compliance ensure shipments move efficiently and documentation remains accurate.

To be successful, you will have:

  • Minimum 4 years' experience in customs clearance, freight forwarding, logistics, or a similar role.
  • Strong understanding of import and export regulations and customs documentation requirements.
  • Experience working with customs brokers, freight providers, and government agencies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Experience using ERP systems such as SAP, Aurora, or similar.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a customer-focused approach.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and compliance.
