Primary responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
\- Lead conceptual and preliminary mechanical design and technology maturation for cruise missile launcher capsules and associated support subsystems in the TMRR phase.
\- Provide technical oversight for mechanical aspects of avionics and airframe integration, emphasizing reuse of existing Navy launch systems and minimizing impact to fleet operations.
\- Plan, execute, and document structured trade studies, architecture development, and systems engineering activities (including producibility and affordability) to balance performance, cost, schedule, and risk.
\- Develop, review, and validate mechanical system designs, models, and Technical Data Packages (TDPs), ensuring compliance with UFC, MIL-STDs, GD&T standards, and other applicable codes and regulations.
\- Evaluate mechanical systems, components, and applications by reviewing designs, performing analyses, and ensuring that appropriate mechanical and thermal design standards are applied.
\- Develop and present design change requests and associated rationale, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to maintain configuration control of the technical baseline.
\- Identify, assess, and manage risks and opportunities driven by design and supplier factors, and execute mitigation/capture actions to reduce technical and programmatic risk.
\- Collaborate across the Tactical Supplier Management Team and external suppliers, providing technical direction on mechanical scope within supplier subcontracts and statements of work.
\- Serve as a key technical contributor for mechanical engineering on the SLCM-N program, providing expert recommendations to program management and customers on advanced mechanical concepts and approaches.
\- Champion continuous improvement and innovative design practices, leveraging digital engineering, MBSE, and Agile/iterative methods to enhance mechanical design quality, schedule, and affordability.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM discipline
- Minimum of 12 years of relevant expereince
- U.S. citizen
- Active Secret clearance, at time of application, current and within scope, with an investigation date within the last 6 years
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret Clearance and Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs
- Demonstrated expertise in mechanical system design/analysis for complex aerospace or missile systems, including experience with conceptual and preliminary design in technology maturation or TMRR phases.
- Proficient with 3D design/2D drawing CAD in Siemens NX (or equivalent), including application of GD&T and ASME Y14.5 to production-ready drawings and models.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active Top Secret clearance
- Prior experience on deterrence or high-performance missile/weapon-system or naval launch/strike programs.
- Proven experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams and managing technical scope with suppliers, including subcontract/SOW execution and technical reviews.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with a track record of developing and delivering high-value technical presentations, design reviews, and customer briefings.
- Proficient with Product Data Management (PDM) and/or Collaborative Product Lifecycle Management (CPLM) tools and experienced applying Agile and continuous-process-improvement techniques to complex engineering efforts.
Primary Level Salary Range: $153,600.00 - $230,400.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
