Description
The Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM) is a dedicated museum that showcases the exquisite artefacts from Palace Museum’s collections and collaborates with other museums in research, exhibitions, education and public programmes. The museum comprises 7 800 square metres of gallery space for standing and special exhibitions on Palace Museum’s collections of paintings, calligraphy, antiquities and historical objects, as well as thematic displays on world cultures and civilisations.
(This is a fixed-term contract position of 2-year with possibility for renewal subject to organisational needs and individual performance.)
You will be responsible for:
- supporting the supervisor in developing and implementing learning programmes, including but not limited to outreach and in-museum workshops, talks, demonstrations, group visits, and educational resources, for a wide range of audiences;
- In close collaborations with curators, conservators and scholars, developing and implementing learning strategies and innovative techniques to support the content development, administration and operation of an outreach programme funded by an external sponsor in particular;
- preparing and compiling reports and budgets, designing and conducting participant evaluation and data analysis, and monitoring project progress to ensure the delivery of programmes within the required standards, budgets and timelines;
- communicating effectively with all levels in and out of the organisation, including community groups, education institutions, sponsors, and other key stakeholders, and building a strong relationship with them;
- managing the promotion and documentation of the programme, including but not limited to drafting and editing promotional writings, arranging photography and videography;
- working closely with curatorial, learning, and design teams to develop interpretive materials—such as guides and interactive elements—that enhance accessibility and relevance for diverse audiences;
- assisting the Learning and Engagement section in developing, managing, and monitoring budgets related to the learning and engagement initiatives and programmes; and
- performing any duties from time to time as reasonably as assigned by HKPM.
You should:
- possess a recognised university degree, preferably an MA or higher education in cultural management, performing arts, education, Chinese art, history, museum studies, conservation, or equivalent;
- have a minimum of 8 years of experience of managing complex and large-scale projects with diverse responsibilities in learning, interpretation, or youth engagement programmes in art, cultural, or educational sectors; experience in event management and operations is an advantage;
- possess the ability to work across the whole range of audiences and act as a bridge between the Museum and the public;
- have excellent content development skills and a good understanding of new technologies that facilitate discovery and learning in a museum setting; knowledge of Chinese art, culture and history, international museum practices and conservation is an advantage;
- demonstrate a collaborative mindset and ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment;
- be familiar with the museum sector and the education landscape in Hong Kong and Asia;
- ensure effective planning, implementation and coordination of a range of events and activities within the team;
- possess good leadership capability and attributes and positive attitude;
- be self-motivated and able to work independently and cooperatively with others in a fast-paced environment;
- be able to work on irregular work hours including weekends, evenings and holidays if necessary for supporting the events; and
- have excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Chinese.
