Medical Assistant TechA Medical Assistant Tech is a paid position to participate in Bronson’s training program to become a registered Medical Assistant. A Medical Assistant is a professional who works with health care professionals in outpatient and other health care facilities to deliver exceptional quality care. They provide vital support to doctors, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other clinical professionals by performing diverse tasks, including patient care, clinical procedures, and administrative duties.
The Medical Assistant Tech will complete a six-month program, including hands-on clinical and administrative skills, classroom learning, independent study, and professional development
A Medical Assistant Tech will be assigned to a Bronson Medical Group practice during the program to obtain hands-on clinical and administrative skills and spend a minimum of two days per week in the classroom setting with educators. To complete the training program, a Medical Assistant Tech will successfully meet program attendance, competency and performance requirements.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Previous experience in healthcare setting preferred.
- Effective problem-solving and prioritization skills.
- Upon completion of the program, students have 30 days to take the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) exam through American Medical Technologists (AMT) and are allowed up to 4 attempts to pass.
- Once students pass the exam, they may apply for open Medical Assistant roles at Bronson. If students fail after 4 attempts, they will have 60 days to apply for other positions within Bronson. If no position is found within 60 days, their employment will be terminated.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and process information in a confidential manner.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, providers, and other staff.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently and function as an team member with other healthcare professionals.
- Ability to input and retrieve data from the organization's computerized systems.
- Ability to maintain positive customer service.
- Ability to establish effective working relations with physicians, office staff, and employees in a team environment.
- Must maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
- Prepares patient for visit including, histories, vital signs and routine testing of hearing, vision or point of care testing.
- Inputs data from patient questionnaires
- Set up room for procedures.
- Acts as a chaperone for providers.
- Prepares instruments for reprocessing.
- Maintains documentation standards and reviews chart prior to appointment to assure requests and documents are in place.
- Accurately documents required information in patient charts.
- Schedules outside tests or procedures for patients in other departments of facilities such as x-ray, MRI, etc.
- Coordinates admissions and referrals to other health care services.
- Cleans exam rooms and stocks exam rooms with supplies as needed.
- Conducts day-to-day inventory of supplies and report items to be ordered.
- Assist patients with check in and check out.
- Assists in the scheduling of appointments in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system as required.
- Answers phone and directs calls where appropriate.
- Confirms upcoming patient appointments.
- Assists in completion of miscellaneous patient forms (Worker Compensation, FMLA, Disability, etc.)
- Attends staff, educational or other meetings as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by medical assistant, nurses, practice manager, or providers within his/her scope.
- Work for Bronson for a minimum of one year after completion of Medical Assistant Tech Program.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use fine motor skills to operate a personal computer and other office equipment and to tolerate repetitive movements.
Work involves considerable standing or walking, regular lifting of lightweight objects (i.e., 20 pounds or less) and assisting with heavier tasks such as assisting in lifting and moving patients. Minor straining or fatiguing positions must be assumed, and some fatiguing physical motions are required.
