The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing technical, clinical, and clerical support to the providers and/or physicians. The position is located at the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, Health Services Division.
ABOUT JAIL HEALTH SERVICES
The Ada County Jail can house up to 1,224 inmates and employs over 300 staff members. Our Health Services Unit houses up to 83 patients with acute medical or mental health care needs. Our team of 45 healthcare and support professionals works hard to meet the needs of our patients. Treatment plans are based on community best practice while also recognizing the security issues unique to a correctional setting. Working closely with our security staff, medical staff is never alone with the patients and, therefore, feel very safe.
SHIFT INFORMATION
This position works Monday - Friday from 7:00am - 3:00pm, with holidays off.

Performs medical and laboratory procedures as outlined by provider and/or physician;
Processes prescription medication for refill and provide instruction per physician direction;
Assists in monitoring supplies and prescriptions as outlined by provider and/or physician;
Assists in monitoring medical equipment, maintaining inventory, and ordering replacements;
Schedules and documents appointments, diagnostic tests, registrations using appropriate systems including computer and telephone, and initiates reminders as necessary;
Copies and/or distributes information by appropriate medium including mail, email, and fax; and
Locates documentation including files and records as needed.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Maintains confidentiality in matters relating to patients and their families;
Serves as role model and mentor to co-workers;
Maintains professional relationships and convey relevant information to other members of the health care team within facility and any applicable referral agencies;
Initiates communication with peers about clinical priorities for care;
Maintains cleanliness of examination rooms using clinical procedures;
Assists with the scheduling of all diagnostic tests;
Relays information appropriately over telephone and other communication devices; and
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.Graduation from a school of technology with current CMA or RMA certification or equivalent experience;
Knowledge and understanding of the triage process;
Skill in demonstrating competency with basic medical procedures;
Ability to maintain confidential materials and medical records;
Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, and patience;
Ability to observe and understand physical conditions and behavior;
Ability and willingness to work with patients’ growth and development needs particularly related to the age of patients in the unit/area(s) of assignment;
Ability to manage a fast-paced work environment related to changing patient needs;
Ability to work with patients with behavioral and/or developmental medical conditions;
Ability and willingness to exhibit behaviors consistent with performance standards and organizational values (e.g., efficiency and financial responsibility, safety, partnership and service, teamwork, compassion, integrity, and trust and respect);
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing to individuals and groups; and

Other Requirements:
The incumbent must maintain current certification as a CMA, RMA, or equivalent and an active CPR certification;
Must pass an oral interview, polygraph exam and background investigation prior to being hired;
This position has been designated safety sensitive and therefore the incumbent is subject to random drug testing.
- Requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to function in a medical office environment to accomplish tasks and perform the essential functions of the position.
