Position: System Nursing & Staffing Business Operations Manager

Department: Nursing Staff Resources

The Business Operations Manager plays a key leadership role in developing and executing clinical, operational, and workforce strategies. This position oversees the operations of assigned business units and the centralized System Staffing Office, ensuring safe, efficient, high-quality patient care through effective business and workforce management.

The Manager directs a broad range of enterprise-wide business operations, including performance measurement and reporting, statistical analysis, decision support, budget planning and management, billing processes, capital planning and implementation, and workforce operations. The role coordinates multiple operational and business functions to support organizational goals, financial stewardship, and continuous performance improvement.

In addition, the Business Operations Manager provides direct leadership for the System Staffing Office, which serves as the centralized resource for staffing coordination across the organization. This function maintains staffing histories, employee scheduling data, nursing workforce information, and patient acuity metrics to support appropriate staffing allocation. The Manager oversees staffing coordinators and collaborates closely with Nursing Leadership to ensure staffing assignments effectively meet patient care needs while optimizing workforce resources.

Responsibilities include leading staffing allocation processes, workforce planning initiatives, schedule optimization efforts, and real-time staffing decisions. The Manager monitors and communicates current staffing conditions, identifies operational risks, analyzes workforce trends, and develops recommendations to address staffing challenges and support organizational objectives. The role also serves as the Facility System Administrator (FSA) for staffing and scheduling systems, ensuring system integrity, functionality, data accuracy, and reporting capabilities.

Under the direction of senior leadership, the Business Operations Manager oversees business operations and centralized staffing functions to support patient services, organizational priorities, and strategic initiatives. The position partners closely with Care Site Executive Leadership, Nursing Leadership, physicians, service line leaders, and matrixed support departments to align operational and workforce strategies with organizational goals. Through these partnerships, the Manager helps optimize patient throughput, access, capacity management, and resource utilization.

The Business Operations Manager also communicates organizational and departmental goals, develops and mentors a high-performing team, and fosters a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. The role leads employee engagement, customer service, performance management, and staff development through ongoing coaching and feedback.

Additionally, the Manager ensures cost-effective resource use, compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements, adherence to institutional policies, and alignment with high-reliability principles.
