Position Summary
The Technical (IT) Product Manager – Pub Sales bridges business strategy and technical execution, owning the end-to-end lifecycle of software platforms, internal tools, or other required technical solutions. This position serves as the primary technology liaison for Publications Sales, translating commercial business needs into technical requirements, strengthening knowledge requirements around SMART standards, structured content, APIs, AI enabled standards use, ecommerce and digital distribution.
They are responsible for helping evaluate, develop and launch new standards-based products, digital services, and other revenue-generating offerings.
They work with the business product owner to create the product vision, manage prioritized backlogs, and develop user stories. They will collaborate closely with engineering and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver measurable business outcomes. They translate complex operational or user requirements into robust, scalable, and secure technical solutions working with the IT team.
Overall, this role is defined as a professional who can understand a commercial opportunity, translate business requirements into technical requirements, work with IT staff to develop the appropriate software and technical solutions, and help bring those solutions successfully to market with the business owners.
Essential Functions
Strategy & Vision: Working with the “business” partners at ANSI, Publications Sales (business) owns the commercial product strategy, customer value proposition, priorities, and business requirements while the Technical Product Manager owns the translation of those priorities into technical requirements and the corresponding technology roadmap (the IT components), balancing technical debt, architectural integrity, and business value.
Requirements & Execution: Work with the business product owner to decompose strategic goals into precise epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria within an Agile/Scrum environment.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with software engineers, system architects, QA, security teams, and business stakeholders. The ideal candidate will assist Publications Sales assess technical complexity, resources, costs / budget, timing / road map, integrations and scalability before new products are approved for development.
Data & Metrics: Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) and OKRs to measure feature adoption, system uptime, and ROI.
Lifecycle Management: Manage prioritization trade-offs regarding time, scope, security, and resource constraints.
AI, Automation & Modern Engineering: Champion appropriate use of AI-assisted software development, automation, and modern engineering practices to improve development velocity, software quality, testing, maintainability, operational efficiency, and time-to-value. Identify opportunities to reduce manual processes and improve scalability through technology and automation.
Architecture & Platform Health: Partner with security and engineering teams to ensure solutions follow appropriate standards to support long-term scalability, reliability, interoperability, maintainability, security and performance.
Key Performance Indicators
Time-to-Value (TTV): Speed at which clients and stakeholders realize ROI after implementation.
On-Time / On-Budget Completion: Percentage of projects delivered within the agreed-upon timeline and financial constraints.
Client Satisfaction (CSAT): Feedback and retention scores from enterprise customers and stakeholders.
Technical Debt & Architecture Health: Progress against prioritized technical debt reduction, modernization, architectural integrity, scalability, and retirement of obsolete or redundant components.
Quality & Release Health: Production defect rates, regression rates, release success, hotfix/rollback frequency, automated test coverage where appropriate, and overall production stability.
Resource Utilization: Efficiency of internal teams and project capacity management.
Automation & Operational Efficiency: Reduction in manual processes, repetitive support effort, development/testing effort, and operational intervention through automation and AI-enabled practices.
Customer & Business Outcomes: Adoption and successful utilization of delivered capabilities and contribution to agreed customer and commercial outcomes, measured jointly with business product leadership.
Integration & Data Reliability: Availability, performance, accuracy, and resilience of critical APIs, integrations, data flows, and dependent systems.
Internal ANSI / ANAB Information Security Responsibilities
Attend/complete assigned information security training by the designated completion date.
Read and adhere to published ISMS policies and procedures.
Report timely any observed violations of ISMS policy - or known encroachments on information security - to your department leader and/or the Information Technology Department.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or equivalent practical experience.
3–7+ years of IT product management experience focused on enterprise platforms, SaaS, white labeled products or AI software development.
Minimum 4+ years of relevant management or IT product management experience preferred; equivalent experience in enterprise architecture or related enterprise technology leadership may be considered.
Extensive experience in DevOps, DevSecOps or Agile development. Working knowledge of AI, specifically AI developed software and related processes.
Experience in a fast-paced non-profit or professional services environment strongly preferred.
Knowledge of standards industry, manufacturing or process-oriented business preferred.
Other Qualifications
Business Acumen: Strong understanding of enterprise subscription business models, digital product delivery, ecommerce, customer lifecycle management, entitlements and access management, CRM, customer service, and enterprise customer requirements. Ability to understand licensing and commercial constraints and translate them into technology requirements.
Technical Acumen: Strong foundational knowledge of system architecture, APIs, data flows, and cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP). Knowledge of Single Sign On (SSO) and related functions. Ideal candidate will understand ISO / IEC systems and technologies including SMART. Have a working understanding of digital licensing, customer entitlements, subscriptions, usage rights, DRM and controlled distribution of standards content.
AI & Automation: Demonstrated understanding of AI-assisted software development and modern automation practices, including their appropriate application across requirements, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and operational workflows
Methodology: Proven expertise with Agile/Scrum delivery models and backlog management tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, GitHub, Aha, Rally).
Domain Knowledge: Knowledge of standards, publishing, manufacturing, digital content delivery, ISO/IEC technologies, or SMART standards is preferred. Ability to quickly develop expertise in ANSI’s products, licensing models, customers, and standards delivery ecosystem is essential
Soft Skills: Exceptional stakeholder alignment, conflict resolution, and written/verbal communication across technical and non-technical groups.
Hands-on background in software development, systems analysis, or data analytics.
Experience integrating modern AI or automation capabilities into enterprise workflows.
Domain expertise in specific tech stacks or enterprise systems (e.g., CRM, ERP, custom microservices, SharePoint).
Superior verbal and written communication skills; ability to represent senior leaders professionally.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and collaboration platforms (Teams, Zoom, WebEx).
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships across all organizational levels.
Starting compensation will be in the $95,900 to $107,400 range, depending on education, experience, and other qualifications.
