The Vascular Sonographer proficiently performs a variety of high-quality diagnostic imaging using ultrasound equipment to assess blood vessels and related conditions. This role requires technical expertise in operating ultrasound equipment, patient care skills, and the ability to provide accurate and high-quality diagnostic images. Responsibilities also require a strong commitment to patient care and collaborative communication with patients and healthcare professionals to provide optimal care.

Career Ladder Opportunities:

Vascular Sonographer:

• Education: Graduate of a school of Sonography and completed required clinical hours OR received on the job training by a Preceptor who is registered in Cardiac ultrasound.
• Experience: no experience required.
• Certification: ARDMS (RVT) or CCI(RVS) or ARRT(RVS) or registry eligible (must obtain registry within 6 months of eligibility); Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Licensure: State licensure may be required depending on the specific state of practice.

Advanced Vascular Sonographer:

• Education: Graduate of a school of Sonography and completed required clinical hours OR received on the job training by a Preceptor who is registered in Cardiac ultrasound.
• Experience: 1+ years of relevant experience.
• Certification: ARDMS (RVT) or CCI(RVS) or ARRT(RVS); Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Licensure: State licensure may be required depending on the specific state of practice.
• Current Vascular Sonographers who are moving to Advanced Vascular Sonographer title on the career ladder must complete all required Associate AND Vascular Sonographer competencies.

Senior Vascular Sonographer:

• Education: Graduate of a school of Sonography and completed required clinical hours OR received on the job training by a Preceptor who is registered in Cardiac ultrasound.
• Experience: 2+ years of relevant experience.
• Certification: ARDMS (RVT) or CCI(RVS) or ARRT(RVS); Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Licensure: State licensure may be required depending on the specific state of practice.
• Current Advanced Vascular Sonographers who are moving to Senior Vascular Sonographer title on the career ladder must complete all required Vascular Sonographer AND Advanced Vascular Sonographer competencies.
