POLICE RECORDS CLERK

Full-Time | Monday–Friday | 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. | Onsite
The City of Hewitt seeks a detail-oriented, dependable Police Records Clerk to join our team and support the accurate, secure, and compliant management of law enforcement records.
This entry-level, full-time position plays an important role in supporting the Police Department, law enforcement personnel, and the public. The Police Records Clerk processes, maintains, protects, and releases police records in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and retention requirements.
Daily operations include focused records work, document review, computer-based processing, and communication with employees and members of the public.
Key responsibilities include:
- Process, organize, maintain, and safeguard police reports and related records.
- Review reports and documentation for accuracy, completeness, and required information.
- Enter and maintain information in records-management systems, CAD, Laserfiche, and other databases.
- Process requests for police records and assist with determining the appropriate release, withholding, or redaction of information.
- Apply applicable requirements related to the Texas Public Information Act, records retention requirements, and other applicable laws and regulations.
- Research and interpret the Texas State Library Records Retention Schedule, Texas Public Information Act, statutes, regulations, and applicable legal decisions when processing records requests.
- Monitor deadlines and ensure records requests and other assignments are completed accurately and timely.
The successful candidate will be organized, dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with confidential information and established procedures.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include:
- Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to learn and effectively use specialized systems such as Laserfiche and CAD.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to read and understand law enforcement records, offense codes, and related documentation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive information.
- Ability to provide professional and courteous service to employees, law enforcement personnel, and members of the public.
