Pay Range:

$16.95 – $22.83 per hour

The compensation range listed above represents the good-faith range Cary Medical Center anticipates relying upon when making an offer for this position. Starting pay is determined based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, education, certifications, internal equity, and market conditions.

Job Summary:  

The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving high-quality meals for patients, staff, and visitors while following established food safety, sanitation, and dietary guidelines. Performance is assigned a variety of general food service tasks. The Cook works as part of the Food Service team to ensure meals are prepared accurately, safely, and on schedule.   

Essential Duties: 

• Prepares and cooks nutritious meals for patients, residents and guests and co-workers.
• Follows standardized recipes, making suggestions if needed in revising recipes.
• Sets up tray line for service.
• Prepares well-presented plates during meal service, including garnishes when applicable.
• Follows food safety and HACCP protocols.
• Maintains a clean and sanitary work station.
• Familiar with cross contamination and practices proper hand hygiene between food tasks.
• Monitors equipment quality, reporting any malfunctioning equipment to the Lead.
• Participates in cost savings by awareness of waste and the ability to scale back recipes when needed.
• Must have time management and organizational skills.
• Assists in putting freight delivery away.
• Performs designated cleaning on daily schedule.
• When requested, is willing to adjust personal schedule to complete workload or cover for emergencies.
• Completes assigned task within designated time frame.
• Accepts and demonstrates understanding for both written and verbal instructions.
• Answers telephone promptly; handles information with courtesy, accuracy and respect for patient confidentiality; receives information and distributes messages as necessary.
• Recognizes and performs duties which need to be performed, although not directly assigned.
• Performs work in a manner conducive to good guest/ employee relations.
• Complies with all food safety requirements in regards to clothing, jewelry, hair restraints, and good personal hygiene.
• Displays courteous, respectful and compassionate behavior towards patients and other customers utilizing effective communication skills.
• Seeks opportunities to become involved in the effort for service excellence.
• Familiar with Dietary restrictions on modified diets.
• Uses reference material to ensure accuracy and assumes responsibility for reading and
• Comprehending all posted minutes and memos.
• Complies with local, state and federal laws and regulations.

Requirements

Education, Skills, Experience Requirements:

•  High school or GED preferred.
• Ability to relate professionally with other hospital staff.
• Obtain Serv Safe certification within 18 months of hire, preferred.

Availability: 

• Depending on department staffing needs, you may be asked to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
