Senior Controls Engineer- Toledo, OH

On-site: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Toledo, Ohio plant on a full-time basis. Must be willing to work weekends.

The Role: A Senior Controls Engineer is an individual contributor that is creative, highly motivated, and an agile thinker with a passion for automation and manufacturing. The ideal candidate has a background in electrical or computer engineering with strong programming skills and can perform at a high level in a fast paced, high volume manufacturing facility. This person shall be comfortable supporting manufacturing processes on the production floor.  As a Controls Engineer you will be addressing production issues alongside quality, manufacturing, and maintenance teams. Additionally, you will be expected to maintain and improve existing production processes by using continuous improvement and problem solving techniques.

 

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

• Analyze, troubleshoot, and diagnose electrical problems in manufacturing operation.
• Design and modify electrical control circuits and programs
• Perform a wide range of engineering tasks on robotic systems using engineering software and hardware.
• Lead technical problem solving / work with cross functional team to drive continuous improvement in our manufacturing process.
• Troubleshoot Industrial Vision Systems (Fanuc, Keyence, PhotoNeo, Matrox…)
• Support existing production through support troubleshooting, diagnosis of equipment malfunctions, etc.
• Support the TIP (Throughput Improvement process) & Continuous Improvement initiatives
• Implement new technology as required to improve our manufacturing processes.
• Support and/or train skilled electricians
• Maintain electrical equipment
• Develop and plan electrical projects
• Collaborate with individuals at all organizational levels in a team environment, while managing multiple complex projects and assignments
• Work with a high degree of autonomy and accountability for results.

 

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent technical experience
• 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
• 5+ years of Industrial Control System experience
• Proficient in PLC and HMI Programming
• Troubleshooting of Servo, and VFD Systems
• Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills used to build effective relationships with team members and stakeholders

 

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

• Troubleshooting of Robotics
• Knowledge of CNC code
• Exposure to Siemens, Allen-Bradley Rockwell, and Fanuc PLC
• Knowledge of Industrial Vision Systems (Fanuc 3DL, Keyence, PhotoNeo, Matrox…)
• Experience with Safety PLC
• Knowledge of GM Global Common Controls Architecture
• Knowledge of high voltage power distribution
• Strong work ethic as a self-starter
• Taking responsibility to follow through on assignments, proactively seeking opportunities to improve outcomes and support others beyond assigned tasks.
