Atrium Health Behavioral Health Charlotte is seeking an experienced, full-time Advanced Practice Provider specializing in Psychiatry to provide high-quality mental health services to patients throughout Charlotte and the surrounding communities.

This position is open to board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNP-BC) and Physician Assistants (PA) who are specifically trained and proficient in the delivery of psychiatric services within the Atrium Health Psychiatry Service Line.

The provider will perform psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and ongoing treatment for adult patients across the lifespan. The APP will be responsible for evaluating, stabilizing, and treating patients with acute and chronic mental health conditions, including but not limited to depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and other mood and thought disorders.

Position Details

Outpatient Behavioral Health
Full-time; Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
36 patient contact hours per week
No weekends, holidays, or call responsibilities
Teaching opportunities with residents and/or APP Fellows
$2,500 CME allowance plus 40 CME hours annually
Eligible for moonlighting opportunities, PTO, and Performance Incentive Bonuses up to 5%

Position Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
Current or eligible licensure to practice as an NP or PA in North Carolina and South Carolina
Current prescriptive privileges and DEA license required
BLS for Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association required
Nurse Practitioners must hold a Master’s Degree or Doctorate in Nursing Practice and maintain certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) from a nationally recognized certifying body
Physician Assistants must maintain certification through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA); current or pending CAQ certification preferred
One or more years of Psychiatry or Behavioral Health experience preferred
Demonstrated critical-thinking and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment and as part of a multidisciplinary behavioral health team

Job Summary

The Behavioral Health Advanced Practice Provider delivers specialized psychiatric services in an outpatient setting to patients with acute and chronic mental health conditions. The APP performs psychiatric evaluations, establishes diagnoses, develops individualized treatment plans, manages psychiatric medications, monitors treatment response, and coordinates ongoing behavioral health care in collaboration with the Psychiatry Service Line.

Essential Functions

Perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and mental health assessments
Evaluate, diagnose, stabilize, and manage acute and chronic psychiatric conditions
Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans
Prescribe and manage psychiatric medications within established scope of practice
Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans as clinically indicated
Accurately document patient encounters, assessments, treatment plans, and interventions in the medical record
Collaborate with psychiatrists, therapists, nursing staff, and other members of the multidisciplinary care team
Provide education to patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, and available resources
Coordinate appropriate follow-up care and referrals as clinically indicated
Participate in departmental meetings, quality-improvement initiatives, and policy development as requested
Advocate for the behavioral health needs of patients and families

Physical Requirements

Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and members of the healthcare team
Must possess intact senses of sight, hearing, touch, and finger dexterity
Must speak English fluently and clearly
Must be able to respond appropriately and professionally in stressful or crisis situations
