About the Company
Our client is building technology that creates accessible pathways into healthcare careers, helping people enroll in training programs, complete their education, and ultimately secure their first healthcare jobs.
The company operates at the intersection of healthcare and education, with a mission-driven approach focused on improving outcomes for students entering the allied healthcare workforce.
The business has grown rapidly and is expanding from a primarily direct-to-consumer model into enterprise partnerships with major healthcare systems. The company works with organizations including large healthcare providers and health systems while continuing to scale its student-focused product.
The engineering organization is growing alongside the broader company, with approximately 14 product engineers today and plans to continue expanding significantly. Engineering teams are organized into product-focused pods, with managers responsible for creating high-performing teams, improving engineering execution, and connecting technical work directly to business and customer outcomes.
As an Engineering Manager, you'll lead Product Engineers building end-to-end experiences across learning, career placement, and student engagement.
This is a hands-on management role where you will remain technically involved while developing engineers, recruiting talent, partnering with Product and Design, and helping shape the engineering organization during a major stage of growth.
The ideal candidate combines strong people leadership with genuine software engineering depth, startup experience, business judgment, and the ability to connect engineering decisions to customer impact.
What You'll Do
- Lead a team of Product Engineers responsible for building high-impact student experiences
- Manage and develop a team of approximately 5–10+ engineers

- Recruit, interview, and onboard strong engineering talent as the organization scales
- Remove blockers and improve team processes to help engineers deliver impactful outcomes
- Establish sustainable engineering practices while maintaining a strong bias toward execution
- Partner closely with Product, Design, Data, and Operations teams
- Participate in product discovery and help ensure engineering priorities align with business goals
- Translate business and customer needs into effective engineering execution
- Communicate clearly with stakeholders and establish expectations around delivery
- Balance competing priorities and make clear, structured decisions
- Drive continuous improvement across engineering processes and systems
- Contribute approximately 20% of your time directly to the codebase
- Participate in code reviews and provide technical guidance to engineers
- Contribute to architecture and system design decisions
- Write code and remain hands-on with the engineering team
- Help maintain high engineering quality and technical standards
- Guide technical roadmaps and system evolution
- Improve engineering systems such as CI/CD, developer experience, and engineering velocity
- Lead engineering projects from discovery through execution and delivery
- Work across core product areas including Learning Experience, Careers, and Human Connection
- Help build adaptive learning and AI-powered feedback experiences
- Support ranking algorithms and partner-matching systems
- Help develop LLM-driven internal tools and AI-enabled workflows
- Ensure engineering teams understand the customer and business impact of their work
- Develop engineering leaders and create opportunities for team members to expand their scope
- Help scale engineering processes as the company grows from approximately 115 employees toward 150+
- Partner with senior engineering leadership on organizational planning and team structure
- Operate effectively in a rapidly changing startup environment
- Maintain strong technical judgment while balancing speed, reliability, and product impact
