The Role

 

This Associate Application Engineer is responsible for development of p-CMP CMP processes and their introduction and implementation at customer sites. This role will also perform formulation development for developing new chemistries for p-CMP CMP.

Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop, support and improve CMP & p-CMP processes for new & existing products
• Act as a process liaison between formulation development chemists and CMP polishing and metrology tools
• Technical interface for customers. Support customers in troubleshooting exercises including product characterization and functional testing. Provide on-site customer support, both domestic and international
• Develop new CMP slurries & p-CMP formulations in conjunction with CSL/BSL/MSL/FSL slurries as per customer’s/semiconductor technology node need
• Investigate chemistry and abrasive interactions with different dielectric and metal films
• Fine-tune chemistry to get desired defects and metrology performance for p-CMP
• Design, filter, analyze and summarize data using statistical software
• Coordinates with engineering & lab staff on process/formulation needs with respect to CMP & p-CMP chemistries. Leads cross-functional teams and provide consultation and technical expertise to Applications, R&D & Process Development teams
• Applies knowledge of acids/bases, corrosion inhibitors, chemical/particle interactions, electrochemistry, organic/ inorganic chemistry, and interfacial chemistry to CMP slurry development
• Participates in new product development and commercialization 

REQUIREMENTS

• A minimum of a BS degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Material Science or related fields with nine plus years of experience within the semiconductor industry, CMP slurries, polishing and metrology tools, and CMP process and product development is required.
• An MS degree with a minimum of seven years or a PhD with 3 plus years of experience is preferred.
• Analytical abilities, experimental skills and expertise in CMP process development, chemistry, and colloids & interface science is required. Previous proven success in p-CMP CMP processes is beneficial
• Familiarity with Zeta Potential, corrosion, colloidal silica, and electrochemistry desired
• Highly motivated, creative individual with a passion for research and development leading to commercialization of high-impact practical applications/products
• Excellent communication, data collection, time management and organizational skills required.
• Proficiency in office software such as MS Excel, Word, PPT and Outlook required.
• DoE, JMP, data analyses and technical reporting needed
• Project management experience strongly preferred.
• Ability to handle multiple projects and directions at the same time
• Good interpersonal skills and customer interaction capability.
• Fluent in Korean preferred
• Ability to travel 40%, including international travel.
• Ability to take calculated business risks and deal with uncertainty
• Ability to work extensively in lab environment & direct technicians to support project needs in an efficient manner
• Must be able to communicate and work well with other professionals in a team environment
• Job requires standing and working in the lab for a substantial part of every day
