Overview
The Network Engineer II will support moderately complex network infrastructures, ensuring reliable connectivity, system performance, and adherence to federal security and operational standards. This position requires a technically proficient professional capable of troubleshooting complex issues while working under general supervision.
Background
Ardent Eagle Solutions (AES) is seeking a Network Engineer II to support a Department of Commerce (DOC) program. This role is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and optimization of Local Area Networks (LAN) and Wide Area Networks (WAN) in a secure, mission-driven environment.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain LAN/WAN network infrastructure for program operations
- Monitor and manage network performance to ensure availability, reliability, and efficiency
- Evaluate and support network-related hardware and software, including:
- Routers, switches, and firewalls
- Telecommunications equipment
- Peripheral and output devices
- Enforce and support network security procedures and protocols in alignment with federal standards
- Install, configure, and maintain network software and systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve moderately complex network and connectivity issues
- Implement and support network policies, procedures, and standards
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of network services
- Provide technical guidance and training to end users and junior staff, as needed
- Document network configurations, processes, and troubleshooting steps
Qualifications
- Approximately 2–4 years of experience in network engineering or a related IT field
- Experience supporting LAN/WAN environments, including networks of approximately 25 to 100 nodes
- Working knowledge of networking concepts, including:
- TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP
- Routing and switching fundamentals
- Network security principles
- Experience troubleshooting network performance and connectivity issues
- Ability to apply standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the networking field
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently under general supervision while managing competing priorities

Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS) in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
Location and Work Hours
This position is 100% on-site and requires daily reporting to the following location:

Washington, D.C. 20230
This role is not eligible for remote or telework arrangements. Candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the worksite and be able to reliably report on-site as required.
This position follows a standard 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday. Employees are expected to be available during core business hours of 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM ET, with additional working hours scheduled outside of core hours as needed to fulfill the full work schedule.
