JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director, Distribution Engineering & Asset Management, the Manager, Asset Management & Technical Standards drives the  strategic leadership, technical standardization, and  long-term lifecycle optimization of Hydro Ottawa’s distribution assets. The Manager, Asset Management & Technical Standards is responsible for defining and enforcing robust engineering standards, and balancing system design safety and Protection & Control philosophies with long-term asset lifecycle analysis. A core responsibility of this role is delivering strategic guidance to ensure best-in-class asset performance while proactively meeting escalating customer expectations for reliability, electrification, and grid safety. • Lead the strategic development, defense, and continuous optimization of Asset Management Plans and maintenance methodologies to ensure corporate practices remain aligned with ISO 55000 standards.

  • Oversee the technical authorities on engineering standards, equipment approvals, and system coordination logic to establish a safe, resilient, and interoperable grid baseline.

  • Navigate complex regulatory compliance frameworks, industry standards, safety codes, and provincial and municipal mandates, providing the technical justification and risk modeling required for the Distribution System Plan and Ontario Energy Board Rate Applications.

  • Develop, defend, and strategically manage the department’s annual operational and maintenance and capital expenditure budgets, optimizing resource allocation across standards development, protection coordination, and asset management.

  • Direct the application of advanced asset health indexing, lifecycle costing algorithms, and root-cause failure investigations to predict equipment risks and inform data-driven capital replacement.

  • Oversee the scoping and scoring of System Renewal capital projects, utilizing the corporate Value Framework to prioritize capital allocation toward the highest-risk assets.

  • Anticipate the long-term impacts of electrification, climate change, and distributed energy resource integration on distribution assets, steering the team toward forward-thinking engineering standards and practices.

  • Champion the Engineering Development Program within the department, actively guiding the mentorship, technical progression, and professional licensure of Engineer Interns to secure the engineering talent pipeline.

  • Serve as Hydro Ottawa’s primary subject matter authority on distribution asset management and technical standards during industry consultations, policy working groups, and formal regulatory reviews with bodies such as the Ontario Energy Board, Independent Electricity System Operator, and Ministry of Energy and Mines.

  • Actively participate in the company's Business Continuity Plan, On-Call programs, and the Electricity Emergency Response Program.
