Description

Overview

DecisionPoint is seeking a UI/UX Designer to lead visual and interaction design for the Defense Casualty Information Processing System (DCIPS) Future program, a Department of Defense modernization effort supporting the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Military Community and Family Policy (MC&FP), Casualty and Mortuary Affairs (CMA) Directorate. This role establishes and owns the design system, from color palette and typography through component libraries and interaction patterns, and translates it into consistent, accessible, production-ready screens in Figma for delivery to development teams building on AWS GovCloud. The position works across three development teams (Casualty Management System, Survivor Portal, and Future Portal Integration) to ensure every screen a survivor, casualty assistance officer, or case manager encounters is clear, accessible, and appropriate to a mission with zero tolerance for error or delay.

This position is fully remote.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain the DCIPS Future design system in Figma: color palette, typography, spacing and grid standards, iconography, and a reusable component library, built from a blank slate with no existing brand assets.
  • Design global structural elements first (header, footer, navigation, layout grid) to give all three development teams a consistent foundation before feature-level screens begin.
  • Translate plain-language and PWS-derived UI/UX requirements into Figma prototypes and specifications the Government and engineering teams can review, approve, and build from.
  • Design screens that prioritize in-line viewing and editing of data over new views or context-switching, consistent with program UI/UX direction.
  • Design progress charting, contextual help, tooltips, and in-application guidance that update automatically as users move through multi-step casualty and survivor workflows.
  • Apply a restrained, professional visual tone appropriate to a casualty and survivor-facing system, including careful, non-ambiguous use of color and status indicators.
  • Design to WCAG 2.2 AA and Section 508 standards: color contrast, focus indicators, minimum touch target sizes, text resize behavior, and no reliance on color alone to convey information.
  • Design for low-bandwidth, high-latency conditions (for example, shipboard or in-theater users): optimized image assets, minimal network requests, and clear loading, retry, and autosave behavior.
  • Define design tokens (color, typography, spacing, elevation, component states) that map cleanly to reactive implementation, to ensure design intent survives the build.
  • Maintain consistent component and pattern usage across all three development teams so any UX/UI developer can move between teams with minimal ramp-up.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives) and incorporate feedback from usability testing, sprint reviews, and stakeholder workshops into iterative design updates.
  • Support creation and upkeep of UI/UX design documentation, including the brand guidelines and design system reference used by developers and Government reviewers.

Qualifications

  • Must hold an active Secret clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated professional experience as a UI/UX Designer, with a portfolio showing design system creation and complex, data-dense application design (case management, healthcare, financial, or similar regulated domains preferred).
  • Strong working proficiency in Figma, including component libraries, auto layout, variants, and design tokens; comfort designing for and directly collaborating with development teams.
  • Working knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA and Section 508 accessibility requirements and demonstrated experience designing to meet them.
  • Experience designing responsive interfaces across desktop, tablet, and mobile breakpoints, including for low-bandwidth or high-latency network conditions.
  • Ability to translate ambiguous or evolving requirements into clear design artifacts, and to communicate design rationale to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including Government reviewers.
  • Experience partnering with front-end or low-code development teams to ensure design fidelity from prototype to production.
  • Prior experience on a DoD, federal, or other highly regulated program is a plus.

Compensation: Anticipated salary range is $120,000.00–$130,000.00 per year
